kids, what you do and what you put up with

snowspider - 3-3-2011 at 07:30 AM

I tell the kid to gear up before we go "I'll do it when we get there"
25-30mph winds glare ice no weights I'm setting up his kite 'cause he's "getting ready"
He's ready but now its undo the bowtie and re-rig the lines.
I help him launch , his eyes pop out as the freight train grabs the kite and off he goes kite flying and he's still up right.
Halfway back I see him fall and the kite flag out, now he's up flying the flagged kite back to shore. My chance to fly is over 'cause I need to help him.
We get every thing rolled up and wadded up check his speed
41.3mph , "ha I'm faster than you dad, you better get used to it"

Snow,
the joys of our kids- I really enjoy flying with my son, but have to constantly remind myself that flying with him means a lot of him flying and me helping; but I think my smile is as big or bigger than his at times.

Oh, it sounded like a transcript from my outings. Spider missed the part about the kid complaining about how you help him. Yes, taking the kids certainly diminishes my ride time, but I don't want to wake up one day and realize they are 30 years old and I missed opportunities to interact with them. Having Wexler at nabx will offer some challenges, but he is good enough to be fairly independent. I'll have him set up to be able to sort simple things out on his own on the playa. Knowing that its not just 3 days on the playa now relieves some of the stress of diminished ride time. If I can just keep him away from the race buggies and his speeds below 30 mph. I'm sure we'll leave with him "needing" a $4000 buggy.:smilegrin:

My son is almost Four and he is gonna be a killer flier!!! When I fly the 4m he holds the bar and I play the role of anchor... He can fly my delta by himself he only needs a takeoff, but it is true that between set up and teardown plus all the other stuff kids do make kiting a little more difficult all of this just so we can create another generation of little fliers!!! Makes me soo proud to do that even though it is full of challenges
