Solar powered kite accessories

There is usually a solar oven at DeadBird... and I've always wanted one... so the deliveryman showed up at my door today.

A solar oven is just like what it sounds like... a way to cook with the power of the sun. My son likes to fish, I like to kite, We all like to eat... baked redfish/flounder/trout (or whatever would bite the hook) cooked on a bed of lemons would really, really hit the spot after a day of kiting. Or even just a slow cooked meatloaf/roast/pork loin....

What are your solar toys?

My cats.... they bake in the sun all day and keep me awake all night. Impossible to sleep with a cat on top of the shelves attempting opera. Perpetual wakefulness.

My bald spot is actually a solar panel for a sex machine ! :smug:

Sunlight ! We haven't had it for so long I am sure my eyes will burn the 1st time it comes out! Not too good for the sex machine either.

i have a giant magnifying glass fixed upon my favorite kite field and i like to scorch intruders like we used to do with ants on the playground........im an adult now, so frying up some soccer moms and dog owners is more to my liking.......

Taper123 - 16-2-2011 at 07:58 PM

I disassembled a big projection tv.... the front flat screen part was giant fresnel lens... I can light fires on leaves/grass/trash from about 8 feet away, or make beer cans explode from about six feet if you can keep a steady focus for a few minutes.... gives ya an example of the power of the sun. Makes you arealize that if wind has enough power to keep us entertained.... the sun is a killer....

I started to respond with what you can do with a "lens" from a old projection tv.... fresnel lens's are cool but deadly.

We have 3- 42w solar panels on the RV to charge the batteries. Great for when we camp without hookups. Our neighbor just installed an 18.5kw system on the roof of his house and barn. That's a BIG residential system.

I made a 6'x4' soda can solar heater a few years ago similar to this one which helped heat the garage.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqObr-M39Ug&feature=relat...

We also gutted a few projection TV's for The Fresnel Lenses and went on a burning spree.

Great idea.....
Here is The Fresnel Lens Cooking Show staring The lovely Denise Rojas

So we can get power from solar panels, heat from soda can heaters, and cook with The Fresnel lens to cut down on those skyrocketing energy bills.

Lol... yup, here's another of her making a burrito
for those who don't want all the details, just a
hot bean burrito. Have to love what the sun can do.

Took a old direct-tv satellite dish (the ones that looked almost round) an covered it with the really shiny tape used to seal air ducts. Took off the feed horn part for the satellite signal... and used that as the focal point.

Pointed it at the sun and placed a large stick at the focal point... within seconds it was smokin....

Now to flip the mounting upside down and the attach it to something heavy like a big piece of wood. Still using the basic sateliitle mounting bracket, so makes it easy to spin or adjust the angle. Figure with it upside down, I can then hang a small cast iron pot from it.... aim it at the sun... adjust once every 30 minutes... and have a nice hot lunch when ready. Not a bad use for junk.

Did a chicken in the solar oven today. Hit temps between 325 and 375... was nice and tasty. Red beans and rice the other day, shrimp with red potatoes and corn a few days before that, and a pork loin on a bed of apples with a touch of brown sugar before that...

Kite powered fun and solar powered cooking... life is good.
