Took a Digger

Whats up guys? This is my first season snowkitting and actually my first season flying any sort of power kite. Have been having a blast learning how to fly the kite and recently have been putting on skies and having a go at it.

I was out yesterday in some pretty gusty higher winds and now understand why its so important to have a depower kite. My scout 4m works great but when those gusts come along watch out. Anyways I was having blast going back and forth, hit 31mph according to my gps. Ended up hitting an ice patch and losing my edge and then put the tip of my ski through a two foot high crusty snow drift.

Before I knew what happened I was on the ground, looking back on the situation I realize that I caught my tip in the hard inch thick crust which pulled my leg out away from my body and then proceeded to fall, putting that leg though an inch of ice.

I know have a medium sprain of my MCL and have been told that I need to take it easy for a couple weeks. Total bummer as we now have wind. Oh well I guess, lesson learned to be more careful on inconsistent crusty snow.

Ouch it hurts reading about it. Feel better soon. Yeah its the smaller ones that spank you every time.

So very true, cant under estimate the power of a smaller kite. Although I dont think this was a mistake with kite handling but instead just a fall that went wrong.

We have death crust here. Medial Collateral strians suck. Take forever if you don't give it a chance to heal. Pound Ibu and ice and you'll be good tho.

At first I thought it was your PCL. PCL and ACL killing crust here for sure, so we have to drive an hour to get some riding in.

Good to hear you've been getting out to play tho! Zipping along well it sounds like.

You should submit your GPS speed to the Stormboarding speed ranking. It's a good speed and you might win some goodies.

For some reason a lot of local riders have been slacking off on submissions because we have deep snow and light winds lately. I don't know what it takes to convince them that it's all relative. My best speed last week was around 45mph. Not blazing in the big scheme of things but pretty good considering.

Your speed would put you in the middle of the overall for the season. Not bad!

Give the knee a rest.

Hmmm I will have to look into that. I take it I just need to upload a screen shot of my speed?

Yeah I normal just ignore pain and let it get better but I have never done anything to my knee and figured I should see my AT ( I am in college and play sports so I have one available) and see what they had to say about it. Sounds like a week of taking it easy and then start working on making it stronger and I should be good to go. It is definitely a learning experience for me, only been at it about a month now.

Yup just shoot a pic of ur GPS and send it in with location, skis, kite and date.

Knee stuff sucks. Sometimes it's hard to tell when it's just a little tweaked or a serious injury. Sometimes a little tweaked hurts like hell and sometimes major stuff just hurts for a second.

Good luck with that stuff!

OK, I will give it a shot at posting it.

Thanks for the kind words about the knee, I cant wait to get back out there.

Yikes! Heal up fast

... up the mountain on Sunday, skiing along fine then suddenly I'm nose first in the snow - tip dropped down a hole and dug in. Yes, I got it on GoPro

Nice!!! I need to buy a GoPro so I can document my crashes.

Spent my bday up at Loon in NH and will be posting some diggers myself from the GoPro. Hit a rail all wrong and tried to hang on instead of bailing. Sprained the thumb and mad bruises as bday gifts when I smashed onto it on the way down. :(

Rest up tho and take it easy. Sitting Out is no fun - been doing too much myself lately!

Sorry to hear about your thumb, that can really be a pain sometimes.

Wife wants me to get a GoPro, not for the sweet times, but so I can capture the crash and burn moments. I think thats the devil in her talking.
