Snow Kite Adventures - Dec 12

Anytime Coolbreeze and I go out it an epic adventure. Not to say its not fun with anyone else but there is always a stories to tell.

Coolbreeze picked me up from work after my GY Shift @ 0730 and we head for Merrit, BC (3 Hour Drive) to snowkite. Normally this a weekender trip but he wanted to get me out riding.

I wasnt expecting much for wind as the previous weekend BR, Buggeyed, and Coolbreeze only had one good riding day for the accounts said.
We got the the lake, I have no idea what the name is, and the wind was blown. We setup a Vapor 5.4m (CB) and a Rabbit 9m (R) and off having fun riding a frozen lake with a top layer of 2cm of snow. We even got a chance to icebuggy however its really is meant for black ice, as it gets sticky on the blade with slush.
Later in the day, the wind dropped a bit so we changed up to the Vapor 7.8m (CB) and the Rabbit 15m (R). there were also two other kiters that joined us later that day. It was a great day for snowkiting and we also visited another near by lake with more snow on it, by this time the wind dropped and it was getting dark and still had a long drive back home.

Movie and Pics to follow.

the epic journey continues (did you read my FB post?), on the way home the we heard a loud pop, and I assumed we either blow a tire or the Rabbit tube popped in the back. Anyways it was neither and a hose for Coolbreeze's turbo went. We drove home with no power at 60km/h on the highway until we got off and started taking back roads. Finally the truck just died and the vehicle computer said to be pull over. We had to wait about an hour for the tow truck to get home for Grant, and Toolman Tim came from Surrey to grab me. We were suck in Abbotsford still about an hour from home.

i have to say that snowkiting is so much fun. i learned that skiis can be a good thing, especially on ice, and a snowboard on snow.

I didnt break any speed records yet, but there is always next time. FUN FUN FUN!!!

I had been up past 24 hours before i get home, and this morning i woke up sore, tried, but ready for more.

Good you had fun, Ric, but your fatigue explains why you posted this in the General Chit Chat section, rather than the Snowkite section!

nice................I guess the rabbits work very well on frozen or unfrozen surfaces..............how is the response and depower on the 9m without the use of pulleys?

ripsessionkites - 13-12-2010 at 12:47 PM

i was on CB's 9m with the pulleys, i had setup my Vapor 5.4m first but we switched it up as I wanted sometime on the Rabbits.

with the delta shape it relaunches no problem on snow and ice.

tridude - 13-12-2010 at 12:50 PM

If you cant relaunch a Wainman you really shouldnt be flying kites................sounds like your getting on well with them...................sorry I just assumed you went direct connect without pulleys on the 9m..................Im guessing unless your riding freestyle unhooked it isnt all that much of an issue..........................
