Riding switch help?

43patrick - 30-11-2010 at 07:55 PM

I was out for my first legit snow of the year today, couldn't remember where my bindings had been set last year. (reset them for lift riding). As this is only my second year snow kiting I was having problems keeping my weight on my back foot when riding switch. It was bad enough that I would mostly ride toe side instead until i wanted to jump. Am i missing a trick or is there a binding set up issue. It was worse in deeper snow or when going up steeper hills. This is not a problem on water. Thanks for any help. Digging out after a big nose dive gets tiring. :o

Patrick, couple things to consider. First, what position did you set your bindings for? When I'm downhill riding, I set mine at 30/15, front/back. For snowkiting I normally set mine at 15/-15. This might make some difference for you.

The other thing to consider is what kind of board are you using? If it isnt a true twin-tip board, then that might also tend to put you in that position as well.

Just things to consider... Hope that helps.

It was fun to watch him in the deep snow yesterday. I was on skis and sucking it up. Pat was ripping and boosting. I think he just wore out after 3 hours of deep snow.

the weight of your melon head needs to be back and over and behind your "new BACK foot". if the harness point is to close to the center of the board or to forward your plowing in.

stretch AWAY from the kite, put your head and hand out . find toeside balance point this way and add weight to back foot. then add power!

oh yeah, when your PHRESH! not after 3hours and all blown out

Thanks for the tips. I will turn my back foot out a little more and set my bindings a little further back (towards the front) to get my weight back and see if that helps. Thanks again. Now we just need more snow and wind!

Aim for a balanced approach. However you have the "front" binding set, set the back one the "same". I put same in quotes so that you understand that you are trying to set it up so that whichever direction you ride, the board will be setup the same. In theory, if you cut the board in half, each side will be identical, like a mirror of the other side...

Here I am confusing myself... argh. Hope that makes sense.
