What are some good snow board options?

rtz - 19-11-2010 at 01:01 PM

I've only been snow boarding once in New Mexico. Now with the kites I can potentially do this on flat ground. I'd like a good for the money kite specific board. What are some options?

How much fun are these boards and kites on flat ground?

Windzup makes the Twisted Velocity Snowkite Board. Ragden loves his, I've got one coming from this years manufacturing run. They run around $500.

Any good Snowboard would do the trick I'd wager, You'd likely want a regular camber board or maybe an early ridse if you have deep powder.

I will be kiteboarding on my old type A snowboard or maybe my newer Ride snowboard, when I heal up.

The upside to the kite specific boards is that they generally ride a bit better during the constant edging.

I thought of this after i posted... Does a kite specific board have less side cut ??

and I assume that you ride predominantlly on the heel edge ?

.

4 more weeks till i get this Damn plaster thing off my leg.... 8 more and I'll be on the kite again on the now frozen and inviting lake with my snowboard.

Depending on your budget of course but I ride a lib tech skate banana. Works great all around (doesn't like rocks in the field or hill just like any board) last year I was able to hold my edge on a lightly covered lake (3inches of really loose powder) when I thought for sure I'd be dragged downwind. Can't compare to anything else for kiting but worked great. Hoping to make great miles with the new speed 2 Here's me on a really light wind day with the 16m scorpion in a stubble filled field:

P.S. checked this field a week ago, they grew peas this year so no more stubble to fight with.

The Twisted Velocity actually has reverse side cut.

It Looks almost the same as Lib tech's Banana Hammock. This board will NOT hold an edge on hardpack. Powder only board.
Why would you want reverse side cut on a kite board?
Do snowkiters only ride on powder?

My understanding (haven't ridden one yet) is that it gives a smoother ride and make it behave more like a kite board on water. Everyone that I know who has one kites with it on all types of snow.

I remember a no-wind day that we went to Dry Hill in Watertown, and Ragden had lots of trouble riding the groomed, but icy slopes with his Twisted board. I don't think he was too happy that day.(Dry Hill, or "The Big Bump" is not all that, anyway!)keep your park board, for those days, Jim.

Yeah, but you'll notice that I said that they kite with it on all types of snow. Ragden does say not to ride it for normal snowboarding. However, since I've never gone snowboarding, I'm not too worried about it.

Well, it never looks like he's having any trouble while kiting with it, anyway!:bouncy:

if you're going to hit the hills with the board as well just use a Park Style snowboard. I got a Forum Manual with was cheap since I planned to use it for Park and on ice conditions.

in my quest to buy a snowkite board, and taking the advice of many Im going with Lib Tech.

unless you're on ice, you dont need that much edge.
