NorthEast Jibe caravan

cheezycheese - 12-11-2010 at 06:37 PM

well there has been some mention of attending Jibe in the spring from a few folks at WW.

1) who's going...?
2) how ya gettin there...?
3) how long are you staying...?

just thought this would be a good place to get a head count and see maybe if carpooling is an option, or a wagontrain,etc...
maybe this can help someone get there who doesn't have the resources.

cheezycheese - 12-11-2010 at 06:39 PM

i plan on attending. probably will be driving. may have an extra seat and limited cargo room to offer. dates TBD.

pokitetrash - 12-11-2010 at 06:58 PM

I'm glad you guys are planning on making the trip! You'll love Jekyll Island! Angus does an outstanding job getting the event organized and you'll really enjoy the group down there.

kteguru - 12-11-2010 at 07:10 PM

The Cheeseman will drive to the ends of the earth for some buggy action:smilegrin::thumbup:. I'm going to try and make it depending on my schedule. That's quite a drive though my friend. 20hrs from our end of the country. Maybe and airplane ride will be necessary:dunno:

cheezycheese - 12-11-2010 at 07:18 PM

hey Dean, i plan on buggying down I-95 !!!

kteguru - 12-11-2010 at 07:26 PM

If we're buggying down 95 baby I'm all over that!!! Where do we start! The only snag I see in the plan is getting over that bloody George Washington bridge in NY:lol:

That's just 2 hours less than the Vancouver, BC guys drive to get to Nabx. Jekyll Island is really sweet sand though. And when those afternoon winds kick in, it's magic.

cheezycheese - 12-11-2010 at 10:07 PM

hey i drive 200mi a day to work, for buggying there's no tellin where i'll draw the line...:duh:

If anyone flies, Florida's Jacksonville International (JAX) is just an hour away with lots of connections. We have a nice little airport here in Brunswick with all major car rentals and 2-3 connections a day through Atlanta that are competitively priced, but JAX has more options. Savannah/ Hilton Head Airport is 70 mins. north. Either airport is an easy run down I-95.

Edit: I also have a local commercial shipping address to receive buggies & stuff.

shehatesmyhobbies - 13-11-2010 at 08:06 AM

The ECKS group is going to do what we can to make it down, There is talk of loading my truck and my trailer with everyones stuff and head down! May have to make it a two vehicle caravan from here! We will keep you updated!

aircav1182 - 13-11-2010 at 09:05 AM

I'm traveling there from the St. Louis, MO. Area if anyone out this way is interested. I have a 5'x8' utility trailer that can pack some gear. Did the trip once and it was around 14.5 hours.

bobalooie57 - 13-11-2010 at 12:05 PM

So, if everyone is going to JIBE, and I take it JIBE is being held the weekend of May 21, then is Wildwood going to be held the weekend of May 7th? Just trying to plan ahead.

edit: not that it always works out...:sniff:

Todd - 13-11-2010 at 01:49 PM

Bob, I answered up in the WBB thread.

Corey and I plan to attend and hope to hitch a ride with Rian & Rich

Can't wait!

acampbell - 13-11-2010 at 01:50 PM

Jibe is 12 noon Wednesday May 18 through Saturday the 21. Low tides are in the later half of the afternoon, which favors the typical wind patterns with the sea breeze kicking up in the afternoon. Beach is usable after about 11 or 11:30 am Wednesday, getting later by about 40- 50 min a day.

Beach will be big at low tide with a Spring tide and Full moon.

Beach is wide open public and official event times are serving suggestions only- come and go anytime before or after.

bobalooie57 - 13-11-2010 at 02:01 PM

Thanks for the info!

acampbell - 13-11-2010 at 03:11 PM

Just a few more details to be sorted with the Jekyll Island Authority this week, then I will post full details on the 2011 Jibe Page (not up yet but soon).

Charlottesville born bro.....small world.....

pbc - 13-11-2010 at 09:24 PM

For those who haven't stayed there consider the Jekyll Island Campground for your JIBE stay. The accommodations are nice, the shade is deep, and the price is right. It's a nice place to hangout during the first half of the day before the winds come up and the tides go out.

During the weekdays it is nearly vacant and very quiet. Friday and Saturday nights it gets busy but that just provides for better people watching. :-)

Yes it has all you need including WiFi but book way early as it can fill up due to migrating snowbirds.

Jekyll Island Camp Grounds

NOTE: You cannot park overnight in public parking or camp anywhere else on the island.

tridude - 14-11-2010 at 06:43 AM

..................and is a greeat water spot as well.........................we were down there last weekend......................the new park makes beach access much easier pulling a buggy....showers, changing rooms, very nice!

You will need a car, though unless you have someone else staying with you up at the Marriot at exit 38. It is 17 miles to Jekyll but a clear shot on mostly highway.

Most who do not stay on the island will be at exit 29, 11 miles from Jekyll

rocfighter - 1-4-2011 at 10:19 AM

Man Cheese we would have room for you but looks like we aren't going to make it this year.

cheezycheese - 1-4-2011 at 10:56 AM

Ok let me be more specific... My peeps are starting to flake so this may be a solo mission. In which case I will share gas, etc. Also may need to bunk/split room costs with someone.
