It kinda depends on where you are from. Shipping is probably going to be cheaper if you buy from a store/ person near you.
I would recommend looking at a package deal on a new kite/board. There are some good deals on new kites. I personally went with a Boxer II 12m kite
for my first LEI. I feel it's a great beginner kite and affordable too.
You probably want to get him a lesson, if he has never been kiteboarding before. It is pretty complicated and dangerous too.

That lucky muppet, does he know how good he has it ???
Seriously though, best thing to do is ask him. All gear is pretty specific towards its' use. (size, type etc) Fall and winter coming, maybe a new
wettie perhaps?

Have fun but you had better get into the sport too, Otherwise you run the risk of sitting on the sidelines and waiting for him to get done ripping or
come back home after an epic session, or spend all you cash like a crack addict on kite boarding stuff.
The world of kiting is vast and exciting. Its like art, just have fun and create any style you want. Just love the wind and make this a together
thing.l
