Build your own buggy plans

hades998 - 29-7-2005 at 05:58 AM

Newbie question.

I see some people have asked this before with varying success. I have checked out the plans for buggies i can find but they leave some of the build to the imagination.

Anybody actually built from one of these plans with success?

Which set of plans stands out above the rest?

Cheers.

FYI. i'm a Mech Engineer so can understand pretty much everything on the plans ;)

I was thinking of building my own buggy, but then I went ahead and just bought one. Personally, it would of only have been worth building if I had welding skills. However, I've never welded anything in my life.

If you have some welding/building skills it may be worth it for you. In that case, I would recommend checking out some retail buggys in person if you can. Maybe find a design you like, then go with similar measurements....but you didn't hear that idea from me. Of course, this could be tough, if you don't know anybody who owns a name brand model...

good luck,

You might check out http://www.alienbuggy.com. It is in German, and requires that you create an account on their site, but is worth a look. I was poking around their site via Google's translator.

The buggy looks pretty fancy with its suspension axle, etc. Good luck.

I have build my first buggy and now I can tell that it is not a money saver.I have welding skills and that was not a problem, but true is that you will never make product like you can buy on market by your self. There is lots of people working hard on project like this trying to make someting very good.
Don't get me wrong I'm very proud from what I have made, but it is like with custom cars ,It's more hobby and final efect satisfaction than time and money saveing.I spend on this project $267 and one week of labour and sarching.on the other hand I had view people willing to pay me $400.
