Alberta May Long

Well as a bit of a fool we decided to go camping this weekend for our Victoria Day long weekend. Check-in was at 4pm and we were there early. Winds were strong (couldn't get a good reading in the bush). Evening was cool but manageable around a fire, kids got to eat countless smores once they were in bed we enjoyed a few wobbly pops.

We woke this morning to a forecast of 45km/h gusting to 60, and of course rain, temp 3 degrees celsius. Our tarps were blown off our tents and if we weren't inside our tents would have been gone as all our pegs were ripped out of the ground. So needless to say at 7am we packed up everything and headed home. Now we are waiting for tomorrow so we can unpack everything to dry.

There is a reason why I haven't braved camping on this weekend every year. But I guess I can be happy that we weren't the only ones out there.

I woke up in a smoke cloud once, when there were fires in CA blowing smoke (and fire) into the parks. No fire in the vicinity thankfully but plenty of smoke for a lifetime. That was equally no fun.

Good story to tell for years! Too bad you didn't have a 1m kite with you :D

Too bad Shaggs. Likely not too many bugs out yet too.

At least it didn't snow down too low this year. Sunshine got 7cm Saturday night but nothing like the past couple of years with enough snow in town for a snowkite session.

Believe it or not, yesterday morning a few of us hit the lake and were unpacking our kites in SNOW! Turned out to be a great day for most everyone and a learning curve day for myself. Too powered to be comfortable, too lazy to unpack a smaller kite that'd need to be cleaned and dried......kicked myself all night over that one. Next time I'll unpack it. Still got a few waterstarts on the V16 but with it fully depowered it was still to much to handle.

Had to snicker at all the campers out there (campground was full) but then the laugh was on us as we froze to death until we got in the water!

crazy weather extremes - here in Ontario it's like the summer doldrums in late May - no wind at all over the long weekend and a high parked over us has no wind in the forecast for a week - and it's been 28-30 degrees over the last few days.
A low pressure to move through thursday night into friday but maybe wind 15-20km but it's been dropping in the forecast.
At least it's given me time to catch up on some of the kite repairs stacked up here.

Snow!!!.....brrrrrrrr how soon we forget when winter disappeared early March this year.

Yeah I thought last weekend was bad this weekend it has snowed and rained the whole time. Some wind yesterday took the kite and mountainboard to the hill but when I stepped outside into the snow it was just too wet. If it had been deeper I'd been tempted to pull out the snowboard. Never ever thought that it would ever have snowed on my birthday, guess there's a first for everything.

We got a hell of a lot of rain this weekend. Ditches are full, basement flooding, flooded streets and lanes, lots of water in open fields, our Floodway around the city is filling. They plan to open the Flooway gates on Monday to lower the river level in the city... :wow:

I did manage to squeeze in an awesome little wave session after the rain this afternoon though.

Happy birthday Shaggs!

Zero - I've been watching what you all are getting hammered with. I couldn't imagine what I'd do if that happened here. Definitely hang the kites up off the floor but I guess there's more than kites to be worried about. I hope it all wrings out OK for Winnipeg.

Thanks for the happy b-day Mac.

Yeah Zero I do hope you guys dry out soon. Seems like this year is all over the place with its weather. This flooding stuff makes me think that I should be doing more than just packing everything we store into rubbermaid containers. It just sucks that a person can't really plan for this stuff to happen. But I guess you can't live paranoid either. Best wishes man.

Happy Birthday Shaggs, been a crazy spring but winds galore our way and enjoying every chance I get glad to see your doing the same.
