the XR+ is a rockin buggy. it got a lot of mods that you can add for the different variations of riding (f-lynn kit, carbon axle, lynn link etc etc). my new lynn link for the bumpy / rough conditions at home

Ok....maybe one mod.... I did help him cut about 2 inches off of his foot pegs cuz they kept hitting the ground when two wheelin' Other than that, totally stock buggy right out of the box with standard smoothie tires.

That's quite a combo Ricardo. PL suspension fork, Flexi footpegs (not sure how you did that since they don't fit) PL downtube, Flexi side rails, PL carbon axle? Did I miss anything? Never saw those wheels before.

Nice job, but to me free styling is air time. Don't bother two wheeling much myself need all the wheels on the ground to get the power for the lift, 720's rule...lol
Hate to say it but don't think the Pl would stand up to that very long with my weight without major mods. I know there coming and waiting for mine for my Flexi but IMHO Flexi is the Free style buggy hands down. I'm waiting to see the new bug coming out, who know times may change and always willing to change with it.

im looking forward to Wolfee testing the Carbon axle ... they do make a reinforced SS version but carbon is so much cooler. ill probably never break mine being an ultra-lite.

@BB, you must have super eyes to view all that in one pic.
yes, is the carbon axle
suspension fork is the Lynn Link
side rails are the F-Lynn conversion kit so i can now use a Flexi Seat as it sits higher. the XR+ seat is too low.
the rims are part of the Ultra Lite buggy, however i dont think the plastic will last as with the std rims. only time will tell as I try to destroy them.
the carbon downtube isnt ready yet, i hear bartiebat keeps breaking them.

Sweet video. I'm a huge fan of Brian and have had the opportunity to meet him a few times, fantasticly skilled buggier and great person.

LOL - not really a trade secret as most of us have cut our pegs down. You can figure out this "trade secret" the first couple times you go two wheelin' and your peg hits the ground and you get dumped.

I'd have to agree with Wolfee, freestyle = Airtime.
The riding Brian does is more freeride, and he does an awesome job at that, and I think his cruising along at 2Mph on two wheels with legs crossed flying a handle kite with one hand totally balanced requires mucho skillz.
And yes, the bug as it is standard is made for exactly the kind of stuff Brian does, freeriding and having fun.

(We never claimed it to be a freestyle bug and do not endorse jumping with it)

If you do want to go make airtime you'll need the New Zealand upgrades.

Freestyle or Freeride....I just like doing what I do. Nothing like the feeling of powering yourself with the wind and being able to control the kite and buggy in a way that people enjoy to watch. Call it what you will. I just like to ride.

And don't get me wrong. I like to jump. Do it all the time....ON THE WATER!!! (and a little on the snow) But jumping with a buggy does not interest me due to the injuries most incur. In my job my back is my most important tool and if I go and mess that up than I am going to be looking for a new profession. Love to ride though. Always have and always will. Looking forward to organizing an actual Freestyle comp next year at NABX. All riders will be welcome...airborne or not. SEE YOU THERE!!!

So I just pulled this out of the encyclopedia.
-Freestyle BMX is the name given to people who perform tricks and stunts on a BMX. It consists of five disciplines: "street," "park," "vert," "trails" or "dirt jumping," and "flatland.

That being said Anyone out there that does any tricks that involve jumping...you would be the "Vert" or "Dirt Jumping". And the way others like myself ride would be considered "flatland". Either way if you are doing more than just going for speed and you do any tricks at all, that is called freestyle.

Freestyling to me is anything other than going in a straight line, anyone who does ground spins and two wheel gypes gets my up most respect. Any idiot can buggy jump its a very easy trick to learn! I've been buggying for years and can do aerial 360, 540, 720's forwards and backwards was just learning buggy off's when I broke my collarbone even so I still can't always do two wheel gypes such a hard trick to pull off consistently. Keep up the good work Brian looking forward to seeing the reverse suicide vid, now thats an insane freestyle trick!!

As for what buggy to use everybody says you need a Flexi rather than an PL XR but which ever you ride they'll need heavily reinforcing, as for the new "Scout" by Flexifoil Rob Hills broke his after one day!! No off the peg buggy will withstand buggy jumping even with the PL carbon axle. :)

I'd like to reinforce Andy's words & rant a little (apologies!..I feel rather passionate about this!)

The day I decided I was going to buggy jump, I went home, found a large piece of velcro, tied it to my buggy & erm skimmed across the ground, then second attempt I skimmed with even less friction & attempt number 3 I completely left the ground, 100 miles high, all the way to the moon!! (or that's how it felt!!hehe). So flatland freestyler to buggy jumper in 15 minutes. The day I decided to do a 2 wheel gybe I eventually completed it almost a year later - admittedly I had 5 months out due to a broken collar bone that stubbornly refused to grow back - which I incidentally did doing FLATLAND FREESTYLE tricks as a buggy jumper. (Sorry Brian, you're theories false, it's safer in the sky!!hehe)

Buggy freestyle to me can be anything from going backwards, to 180s, jumping, buggy offs or even just riding along in a straight line sticking both feet in the air - buggy freestyle is anything you want it to be - the clue is in it's name FREEstyle!!

I can jump to the actual moon these days, but the idea of doing a reverse suicide's scares the bejesus out of me! Brian you're a freestyle nutter!! :)

I've had the PL carbon axle for about 15 mths now, get one!!! It's amazing, but unless you buy a PL F-Lynn, you will still need to get the original Flexi/XR reinforced at the front/side rails, (wouldn't fancy it much on a Scout); it just means you won't need a towel rail & landings will feel much smoother. I personally like the idea of my axle bending rather than my back! Even reinforced the buggy will still eventually bend, my right side rail went yesterday, but it's nothing like the 3 sets I went through before getting it reinforced & the carbon axle is still as perfect as day one :)

The way I see it: doesn't matter if you are a "freestyle god/goddess" or out setting new world records for speed, we all attach a kite to ourselves and sit in a buggy for the thrill/peace/fun of it. Buggin is buggin no matter how you cut it. Sure there are several differences from specific discipline to discipline but isn't the end result why we do it to begin with? To me, that makes it the same :)

well Andy & Bartie, notice I said to me free styling means airtime to you something else and thats fine. If your so good in the air can't believe two wheeling is a challenge lets get a little real. I ran my Flexi for many years and have destroyed a couple axles and rims but no other damage. Did get to try the Pl carbon and loved it and have one on order. Ride the way you want and have fun but with me its the air that turns my crank. Enough said.

I absolutely couldn't agree with you more Mougl. Perhaps I should have explained rather than just ranted! :embarrased: The reason I am passionate about the subject is because I've spent such a long time trying to get girls even interested in freestyle & it's virtually impossible. Yet the second they learn to go backwards or learn a power slide & you say "there you go, you just did your first bit of freestyle!" a little fire ignites at the realisation that it doesn't have to be scary, adreneline fuelled macho stuff & the improvement are huuuuuge. From a guy perspective, we have too many 15 year old kids launching themselves skywards with no kite control because they see flatland freestyle is for pansys! I feel so strongly that flatland freestyle should be celebrated just as much if not more than aerial, because once you have your flatland tricks aerial becomes easy.

To your comments Wolfee, That's the whole point of our posts! We're not that great, but aerial freestyle was much easier to learn than flatland! But it's not about which is easier, which looks the best etc - I'm not asking you to think it's any good or even to do them anymore, I'm just asking you to accept a 360 for example is a freestyle move regardless of whether it's done on the ground or in the sky.
It's so much easier on a landboard to get props, but the world desperately needs more freestyle buggiers or one day it will just fizzle out. So of course go do it whatever way you want & it sounds to me like your doing a great job of pushing yourself as hard as you can, but please also encourage everyone who's trying something even if it's not your own style :)


The very best buggy freestyle of course is where the two link together & the flatland stuff is used as a transition - 2 wheel gybe into reverse aerial 720, land 2 wheel reverse, reverse riding - love it!! Watch some of he BKSA videos :) I'll NEVER be able to do that kinda stuff!! I can dream though :)

Skills are skills, and you need to have the ground skills down before you even think of trying any aerial stunts. I have been working at developing a curriculum for the schools showing all sides of our great sport. Just in the fine tuning for board approval I have introduced power kiting to over 4000 students.
Speaking of girls I got my friends 14 year old daughter who was getting into trouble with the law (skate boarder) into kiting and got her first kite for her birthday. She is incredible skilled passionate rider and recently just returned from the UK and had a great time at Wallop.
Flat land does take lots of skills and in no way did I try and demean Brian. He is good at what he does and loves it and that is what counts. As you mentioned the air time does stop traffic dead and yes can be dangerous as well as any facet of our sport. Personally I've been hurt more on the ice than the ground. I ride on the edge because I am a adrenaline junkie, maybe too many years in her Majesties Royal Rangers but I also promote safety gear to the fullest which many riders and videos seem to forget. This is very damaging to our sport. I ride with full body armor, helmets etc. Currently doing R&D on new armor with rib protection. I am probably one of the senior citizens of kiting, damaged myself too many times but no matter how hard I try just keep coming back. My first ride was on the beaches of Ireland when I was a wee muffin and it like a disease that gets in your blood. No cure for it but mother nature and the wind..lol.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. This sport still has lots of room to grow. And I am happy to see everyones passion for the sport. That is what will encourage more people to get into our growing community. Hope that we can get more people into Freestyile competing in the US. Flatland and Jumping will be judged seperately as they are different disciplines.

And as we inspire more people to get into freestyle I expect more tricks will be discovered. What an exciting moment for our sport. :bouncy:
