mougl - 25-3-2010 at 01:35 PM

Still waiting on the boss to grant the time off, he's taking his sweet time. If he does give me the time then: Buggy or not, here I come!

lmao!! i wish she'd go for it!!

BeamerBob - 25-3-2010 at 02:51 PM

I got to spend an anniversary there at an HQ demo day a few years ago. One of my crowning achievements. I've buggied past weddings several times there on Jekyll. You could even have a "squadron" of buggies do a fly by when you kiss the bride! Heck, I should do wedding/kite packages...............

mougl - 25-3-2010 at 03:22 PM

A wedding fly-by? Brilliant!!! Only way to make that better is for bride and groom to ride off in a tandem buggy....

Drew...dare to be a pioneer here!

acampbell - 25-3-2010 at 03:29 PM

AJ, you in? (JIBE, not getting married)

action jackson - 25-3-2010 at 03:31 PM

Still planning my future! I would love to be there but not sure at this time............aj

mougl - 25-3-2010 at 03:32 PM

Angus: it may come to that! I've been dying to get up to JI and check it out, gone as far as looking at homes to buy in the brunswick area :P

Aj: had no idea on that one...too cool!

Drew: something that epic deserves an encore!

tridude - 2-4-2010 at 07:02 AM

obtw, Im in the market for a buggy.................................so if you have one for $$$ let me know...............................

mougl - 2-4-2010 at 11:30 AM

Looks like I may have the green light to bring my noob skills to jibe! When NABX is done I should have my buggy and harness ordered (already got the mx helm) and hopefully a few weeks of seat time before heading up :)

Ill have the walk of shame line ready!

pre cursor warm up for JIBE......Angus are you going out this weekend? forecast on Ikitesurf looks good on Sunday..............................onshore low to mid teens...................................mid afternoon low tide..............................

pbc - 8-4-2010 at 08:22 PM

St. Augustine is showing multiple days of on shore winds as well. I would love to head over on Saturday, but I'm not sure I'll have time. This is why we have to set aside a few days each year to go to Jekyll Island and hang with Angus. :-)

You missed a good session. Wind NE in the high teens- 22 mph, 30 degrees from side shore. I put 20 miles on the buggy with nice, fast deep broad reaches while Robb VanWie and Robb Rittgers were pumping blimpies on the water.

Robb V was flying his new Epic Hybrid Bow from a bunch of former Eclipse folks. Real nice rig.

chris - 12-4-2010 at 11:55 AM

Angus - either Craig or myself will be in town for JIBE this year. HQ demos will be on hand.

Chris

Drewculous - 16-4-2010 at 11:36 AM

i def want to go to jibe, but man... fiance wont go for it, lol
man i'm lucky to have such tough decisions, lmao!

acampbell - 16-4-2010 at 11:49 AM

Even I'd take the Guinness Warehouse Tour.

At the pub on top floor after the tour with our "free" Guiness...

Taper123 - 16-4-2010 at 05:15 PM

Lol... I've got a 5 gallon keg of stout I need to tap soon :) Have a picnic tap.. keep thinking of throwing in a tall kitchen trash can with the co2 tank/ice and taking it to the beach with some plastic cups :) Was brewed in early january and kegged mid-march... should be getting about right :Ange09:

Gotta love a nice flavorful beer now and then :frog:

pokitetrash - 21-4-2010 at 04:49 PM

OK my homie sapiens! Got the motel booked and me from SC and Frankiter from Maryland are starting to polish and pack! We'll be there on Thursday just in time for lunch on the beach.

Angus, please fill in the tide pools for me ahead of time. I still have sand wedged in my crack from crashing through some of the not-so-deep-looking ones from last year...

acampbell - 22-4-2010 at 04:29 AM

OK, I'm on it Po'. And I'l throw in some bath oil beads. How bout some bubble bath? Now there's a picture!

pokitetrash - 22-4-2010 at 05:41 AM

Yea! You really don't want to see me wallowing in a bath. Or a tide pool. Do Big Foot buggies float? I might have to test it out.

I'll bring the soap on a rope. I've partied with some of you guys before so I'm a little leary...

Virtue is right! And it's gonna stay that way too. I wondered what those bubbles were when you took MY buggy into the tidal pool that time. Hey wait a minute, you were smiling real big as I remember it...............

mougl - 22-4-2010 at 08:21 AM

Mental note: leave black beards before last call...got it!

mougl - 23-4-2010 at 11:29 AM

Time off work approved, registered, hotel booked, reactor 8.3/garmin etrex/hd camcorder on the way...

are we there yet????

acampbell - 23-4-2010 at 12:04 PM

You will likely get good use of the Reactor 8.3. Good acquisition; big kite for light winds but still turns fast enough to work it, yielding more range than you would think.

pokitetrash - 23-4-2010 at 12:40 PM

I'm dying to park and ride the 15m Phantom!

Hardrock - 27-4-2010 at 03:19 PM

Rooms at the ready!!!!

I will be there Thursday.

Wish I could take a nap and wake up Wednesday the 12th.

freakin.....

stoked!!!

bobalooie57 - 29-4-2010 at 11:02 AM

With JIBE and Wildwood happening at the same time, maybe we should try to post as many pic's as possible after each day's festivities! Make it like a comp!

tridude - 30-4-2010 at 07:34 AM

Ja Ja Ja JIBE talking..........................11 dayz and a wake up:lol::lol::thumbup::duh::duh:

pokitetrash - 30-4-2010 at 07:39 AM

Ahhh, I can almost feel the sand in my crack from buggying the tide pools! :moon:

Maybe this year I'll set the PSI higher in the BF tires and skip like a rock right across. But then again, that wouldn't be as much fun...

tridude - 30-4-2010 at 07:45 AM

you can clean it out with some body draggin afterwards........................15m Phanny is a great water kite....................my fav in the arc family

mougl - 30-4-2010 at 08:42 AM

I'm going to go nuts with seeing kites on the water...that's the direction I'd eventually go...is it jibe yet????

pokitetrash - 30-4-2010 at 09:34 AM

Might try the body dragging. Isn't that after Black Beards? Oh, that's the bar crawl...:barf:

mougl - 30-4-2010 at 10:09 AM

Bar crawl??? Where do I sign up?

tridude - 1-5-2010 at 06:09 AM

10 dayz and a wake up.........................this should be an awesome event................without a doubt a very diverse group of pilots and skill sets covering all disciplines of flying....................hoping to see a Rev in the air too, never seen one.............................

Hardrock - 1-5-2010 at 06:34 AM

Didn't wake up, just opened one eye to have a look around. Yea we pretty stoked too.

I'm gona have to break down the bug and stash parts all in the trunk. Then assemble in the parking lot I guess. every day??? If thats what it takes. Wasn't gona bring it but you guys have twisted my arm.

The largest kite crowd I've ever seen together was 4. Tridude, Phreerider, me and sweet thang.

The Tridoor is too HOOJ, took 20 minutes to fit it in the car. That was a sight. Cracked me in the head once in a turn.

acampbell - 1-5-2010 at 06:55 AM

Yeah we have to take the bugs off the beach at night. The tide can come in high and there are environmental issues such as the sea turtles. I inquired about a leaving them in the parking lot and having paid security but it was more expense than people were willing to toss in. If you are staying on the island you should be OK leaving them outside your motel door at night or loosely tied up. One advantage of the $5 parking fee for the island is that it keeps a lot of riff-raff out. This is not a guarantee but it has been my observation. I have gone a whole day and left my car door wide open while on the beach with no problems...

bobalooie57 - 1-5-2010 at 07:15 AM

I don't know if your buggy is too huge for this, but it worked for me, you can use a cable lock to secure the buggy to it, but like any lock, it only keeps honest people honest.
Edit: sorry, it's a Bell bike rack/trunk mount.

buggy bike rack.jpg - 86kB

Hardrock - 1-5-2010 at 04:31 PM

Couldn't get an Island room. But still thats great news and maybe this year things will be safe and secure.

Thats a pretty nice set up bobalooie. But can't quite do it. I've been thinking about looking under honeys car and see whats around to weld to. If I can get a piece of square tubing under there, the rest is history. She might go for a no touch method.:D

mougl - 1-5-2010 at 06:08 PM

I'm still trying to figure out how to pack a buggy, 4 kites, couple of extra bags, cooler, etc INSIDE an altima:lol::lol:

I bike rack can be a wonderful thing. I have the Thule SpareMe rack mounted on the back of my Honda CRV. I can carry two fully assembled buggies on it. Admittedly the geometry of the CRV places the horizontal supports--the parts the buggy seat frame rests on--52" above the ground and nicely offset the bugs from the tailgate, but it might work on a sedan if you find the right bike rack.

See you there. :-)

9 dayz and a wake up..................................:thumbup::lol::duh:

acampbell - 2-5-2010 at 05:32 AM

I spent most of last week on Jekyll but working in class for the Census Bureau at the Convention Center right next to the beach. I'm in a class but the skies are severe clear, the Bermuda High is sending in North-Easterlies and the afternoon sea breeze is kicking in; worse than blue balls not to be able to put up a kite.

But I have to say that the beach looks good and everything else is setting up nicely.

If you are planning to come but have not checked in yet, let me know so I can estimate a head count for supplies. Still waiting to hear from some of the usual suspects...

mgatc - 2-5-2010 at 08:53 PM

Angus,

I'll get Josh and I signed up this week. Kite only, arriving on Weds and leaving Fri afternoon. Unfortunately we'll miss the Friday night dinner this year.

mougl - 3-5-2010 at 07:36 AM

8 days!!! :wee:

Hardrock - 3-5-2010 at 07:30 PM

Getting close for sure.

We'll be outa here so fast Thursday, hours before daylight I'll probably get some kind of jet lag.

Ya'll see a white car plunge into the ocean, it's just me trying to slow down.

Angus, do you have one of these you can set up? If the net don't hold we can still save the important stuff.

beach barracade.JPG - 34kB

mougl - 3-5-2010 at 08:19 PM

I'm calling the microtel tomorrow to ask about early check in. Planning on leaving here @ 3am to arrive by 11...dont want to get to the beach and have to leave a few hours into it to check in

acampbell - 4-5-2010 at 04:09 AM

No worries, the soft sand at the dunes will always stop the cars and there are enough environmentally concerned citizens around to make sure the beer cooler does not go in the drink.

pokitetrash - 4-5-2010 at 09:43 AM

I plan on drinking all of my beer on the road trip down to ensure that I don't spill any on the beach...

I'm hoping that like in a car wreck where drunks don't get hurt 'cause they're limp on impact --Maybe my OOBE's will be like that.:wee:

BeamerBob - 4-5-2010 at 09:51 AM

You guys are killing me! I actually keep running a scenario through my head where I think about checking flights in, and then I start to think about getting the "right"gear there and how travel expenses ding my toy budget and that is when I slump over till next time I start over again. I know there would be a few extra kites there and maybe a vacant buggy from time to time but alas, it all adds up too much on family and finances for me to pull it off.

mougl - 4-5-2010 at 10:39 AM

BB...when I told the Reactor that you wouldn't be there I think I heard it let out a long sigh followed by a wimper...

pokitetrash - 4-5-2010 at 11:16 AM

Oh c'mon Bobby! What's another grand in travel expenses! You come to JIBE and we all promise to come to NABX with you next year....

Right Guys?

(Cricket....Cricket....Cricket....)

BeamerBob - 4-5-2010 at 01:18 PM

That would be the forecast since we have that weekend as well as every other May weekend booked up with family and inlaw stuff now that I actually got deep enough into this to check for feasibility. I still can't stop thinking about the possibilities though. Thanks for closing the gap guys.

Hardrock - 4-5-2010 at 03:01 PM

Would be nice to meet the BeamerBob, thats for sure.

At 3169 posts, seems like I've knew him all my life. About half of those post were trying to educate me.

Guess I'd let him in my bug for all the help but I bet he can tare the crap out of some equipment.:lol::lol:

mougl - 4-5-2010 at 03:25 PM

Speaking of tearing equipment up...I just hope the new buggiers go home with buggies and bodies in 1 piece lol!!! Myself included :)

acampbell - 4-5-2010 at 03:44 PM

I expect a scrape or a bruise here or there and have a first aid kit for both people and kites.

Serious accidents are not an option.

Wear a HELMET

mougl - 4-5-2010 at 03:49 PM

My helmet goes where my buggy goes...no exceptions

HR, I took it the right way. You don't seem like the type guy that would go slinging insults around without a smile on your face! Even being larger than average and yes I do tend to get joy out of those slingshot turns, I've not ever torn anything up just by pushing the limits. No buggy damage ever and the only time I ever broke a line was when I had the kite killer/brake lines attached wrong. The equipment we use is built to take quite a bit of force.

Let's hope everyone goes home safe and with smiles on their faces.

EDIT: Oh and HR, if half my posts were helping you (no way) the other half was of me asking questions (even a month ago) trying to learn about this stuff. I'll always be a student first. Always something to learn. You new guys will learn alot at JIBE with all the other buggiers around. Seeing what they do and learning techniques from watching and discussing this stuff. I learned something at every group encounter.

Sounds like Mouogl is getting a head start on Tuesday. NOAA is predicting SE 15-20 for then which is near perfect. then the afternoon sea-breeze kicks in to pull it right off the water for perfect park-and-rides. This bodes well for the week.

I will be enumerating citizens for the US Census Bureau but will try to sneak away if I can get enough heads counted...

I'll be staying at the JI campground.
