I tried to snowkite Pemberton Icefield yesterday ...

sounds sure big!
But I ended up not kiting  (well just once)
Unfortunately visibility was so low that if you rolled over in the snow you could barely figure out which way is up to stand up.
It supposed to be like this:

But it was like this:
blizard on icefield
At least I was with a professional film maker who took lots of pictures :spin:

PS Now after riding a snowmobile for the whole day and today dealing with every muscle aching , I can sure appreciate this sport and respect all riders

Great photography, to bad ya didn't get to kite as much as ya could have. Looks like a very beautiful place. Snowmobiling is a good consolation prize for not getting to kite though.

it adds to the excitement when you don't know which way is up. Many times on the lakes in the winter time of course with the wind comes the white out conditions but sooooooooo worth it...lol

Too bad you didn't get going !

We need to talk ! If you can get us towed in you KNOW the 2 G's and I would love to join you !

Getting in to Pemberton ice field with a sled, kite and guide is a real dream of mine !

Sorry guys for replying only now, my notification was off ...
The whole reason actually I went to the glacier, was to check it for snowkiting. It is 300 sq km big!
I am supposed to be running a snow-kiting and speedgliding events in May for the Pemberton World Mountain Sports Festival (see http://www.pembertongames.com), so I had at least to see what it is all the fuss about.

I also have come across an amazing video about Pemberton and its enormous Ice field - truly mecca for snow-kiting, just look at the vast snow fields! (you can skip part 1 and go straight to part 2)!
Part 2

PS I think I have connections now with the local snow mobile club who can help to get there ;-)

Thanks Bladerunner! I will definitely keep you in mind. There are no promises as you can see how it was for winter Olympics in Vancouver - just no snow, but since it was in government's hands they really pulled it off bringing snow on choppers. As to little mortal me all I can hope is there will be enough snow. Usually on glacier there is enough snow till June, July. So keeping fingers crossed.
This is awesome if riders are getting interested! :singing:, then I should create a sort of a facebook event, so I know how many people are interested/coming. So the local snowmobile club can help and plan accordingly.

OH YA,

I will do everything in my power to help open up Pemberton ice fields to Vancouver. We just need to get some kites in these sled heads hands !:bouncy: If you are able to arrange a clinic or something I would be happy to help teach folks in an infomal way. Same with being willing to teach sled people to kite in trade for tow in. :bigok:

If we pack right we just need a tow in and out + communication if we need a rescue. The thing I don't know is how far in we need towed ?

You work your little mortal ways for us please ! :smug:

Rip', I don't think snowkiting has been included before. I think this is a chance for us to introduce ourselves and the sport. How it marries with sledding and how we can use their help opening up the place. If I'm right this is just an opportunity thanks to Solaris knowing the area + people via paragliding. A great way to set the seed for a full blown invasion next year! :wee:

P.S. I'm pretty sure the 2-G's will be open to helping out as well ! As you saw this year it is just the 4 of us that seem to want this enough to work for it.
