gonna need a smaller kite

shaggs2riches - 13-3-2010 at 03:50 PM

Got off work early only to find that I'm not man enough to go out in the winds we have

Lloydminster, AB Partly Cloudy
* Wind: NW 44km/h
* Wind gusts: 61km/h

Gotta get a smaller access for days like today:yes:

Think the 4M is as rare as hen's teeth.

Heck, Kent can't managed to get any of the Access XTs.

Awww come on Shaggs. That Scorp just start to get fun at those speeds! J/K
Always best to be safe then stupid.
Talk to bladerunner about his 10m Charger. Seems like a great high wind engine.

Best to leave those alone - no fun is worth the downside of having to eat food through a straw.

damn ... buggy SPEED RECORD to be had. :smilegrin:

I may get to see the top end of my 10m at NABX but I can promise I won't be flying it in 44 - 61. Rip would probably do it ?

I have my trusty 2.5 for those winds but will be hoping like heck there is a 6m Charger there to try. I am thinking of getting one as a luxury kite that rarely is needed but much appreciated. Another drawback is a small kite like that needs a small bar.

Riding in winds like that isn't my big thrill ( getting too old ) . Chasing top speeds isn't my #1 drive and jumping in those winds scares me. It's more a survival game at that point.

Cheap way to handle those winds. Get a 2.5 or 2m non lifty quality fixed bridle.

I too was out saturday and was iching for a fast ride on my sled. It was 25-30mph gusting higher which is the limits of what Ive flown in with my 5m element. MY sons friend saying "come on Mr C. are you aman or a woooman " So I said ok but this might be a short ride.I had my wetsuit on , hip , shoulder and elbow pads , lacross helmet ,all the instant courage in place and securly fastened.
I was able to launch from the side but one of the steering lines had a 1/2 wrap around a middle line so I brought it back down for my son to grab but he's off playing with the dog so his friend grabs it and Im yelling "hang on". I undo the sheeps head at the bar undo the twist and reattach the line. I'm hooked in pulling everthing tight to check the lines and the kite takes off, there is'nt a single line were it belongs
and half way up the window it dives for the center. I'm yanking every safety I've got and drop back on my butt with my feet facing "down river". My son watching from the gazebo on shore said "dad you looked like you were surfing on your ass...there was a rooster tail behind you". I never did let go of the leash I figured sooner or later Ill get this thing to stop. Finaly got it slowed down enough for my little buddy to get behind it and end our adventure. Measured 20 mph on the gps I wonder if I can turn that in to Stormboarding for my fastest speed this week?
