Shipping gear

elvislives - 4-3-2010 at 08:41 PM

Anybody have the best way to ship? I'm tearing down my buggy this weekend to get it into two duffel bags (my plan right now). I'm checking on Greyhounding it to Las Vegas and pick it up at the bus station. I can try checking it on the plane (need to weigh everything). I will also check UPS with the idea of picking it up at a UPS store in Vegas.
I'm flying to Vegas and have several options to get my buggy there. I'm hoping I can capitalize on someone elses experience so I don't wind up trying to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks in advance.:moon:

I remember people talking about golf bags for the plane. I guess the planes don't charge extra for those. Might be different now with all their changes recently.

the reason why we put everything in golf bags, is that it doesnt count as your luggage allowance. normally it can be over weight without fees too.

if packed right, a golf bag can fit a full race buggy inside. =)

Thanks, Ricardo and Dakitez. I went to Continental today and apparently things have changed. They count the golf bag as one of your bags and you can only check 2.
The first bag is $25 and the second is $35. If a bag is over 50#, you mast pay an extra $50, but it can't be over 70#.

Greyhound will ship 100# w/ dimension restrictions for $100.

I'll check UPS tomorrow.

Allright- I have found the best way to ship. After wasting time at Greyhound with no help from the desk, checking the FEDEX websight and going to Continental airlines, I found the best way right here on the forum. This is where I found out that NPW goddess is going. Susan will haul my gear! Now I don't have to worry about room and weight of my shot car garage or Mardi Gras beads.
I've been playing the Moody Blues lately. I got to see them at Buffalo Bills last year during NABX so they kind of bring back memories.
Looking forward to seeing Will and Dave doing tricks again. Missed you guys last year.
Corey Llama, I'll buy a round. I visited your shop in October when I was in Vegas for fun. Never been to a kite and buggy store.
Anyone heard anything from Crash? Haven't seen him posting.

Yeah, where's Crash?

As always, you can ship your gear to us at A Wind Of Change and we can hold it for you until you get here. Contact me if you need details. We have a ton of gear coming already so no problems at all receiving it for you here.

Don't forget you can ship to the hotel, too.

EDIT: See other thread and DO NOT ship to the hotel
http://www.powerkiteforum.com/viewthread.php?tid=12973

Any hotel with convention facilities is used to receiving freight and large packages for guests.

EDIT: I guess they are not a convention hotel ( I never looked) or they would have a whole department for receiving.

UPS Store has limited hours on weekends and the Hotel is always accessible. When I checked in the first year, there was my large box sitting in the middle of the floor behind the registration desk.

Last year I checked bags because I did not want to be without the gear the week before and after while it shipped ground. I spent more on baggage fees than my own ticket. Southwest Air is supposed to have very liberal policy on baggage but they do not serve JAX. would have been worth it for me to drive 3 1/2 hours to Orlando and get SW Air there.
