The Half Pipe Re-visited

Sand-Yeti - 14-2-2010 at 10:16 PM

I have just finished my first Kite-Buggying vid. of 2010 and believe it is better than the Half Pipe vid, that I made in 2009.

In case you think it is just another S-Y vid. running the dunes, you are right.

It is a buggy run in the Dubai desert dunes about 30 minutes drive from my villa.

Brig - the Mrs who skillfully followed me in her 800cc Razor, shot about an hour's worth of vid that I've edited down to about 6 miniutes. The vid. is fairly steady because the cam was fixed to the Razor's roll bar.

Considering the miserable winds we have experienced this year, I was fortunate to manage this route.

That looks hella fun, assuming it's 70F out ;) If only the Oregon dunes would be this cool. I assume you usually don't go over the back side of the dunes blind?

Yeh! it is fun. The temp. was 75F (24C), which is a very pleasant winter temp. here.

Yep, I do go over the dunes blind but have been doing it for years now. I took off once from a ridge & came down on the sharp spike remains of a dead tree that went straight through one of my Bigfoots. Luckily, it was just the tyre that got ripped up and not my seat that came down on the spike, which as you can imagine would have been unpleasant.

Sitting close to the floor in the buggy, I don't see very much so have to be quick at turning and have good speed control.

It isn't as dodgy as you might think and one gets used to reading the sands & can predict most of the time what's on the blind side of the dune.
