El Mirage?

Lunchbox mentioned I should see if I can swing through El Mirage on my way from NABX. Just curious if you think it'd be worth the "jog" off our route to Yuma or if I'd be dry laked out?

(I'm gonna have to reset my GPS and log how many kite kms I get under my harness....)

Yes, I think it would be worth it. But expect the best wind to be in the couple of hours before sunset. Elmers has better quality wind and a better surface than Ivanpah. But you have off-roaders there. Keep you head up.

Hey Macboy,

There is a very real possibility that you could get lake beded out but if not, definitely worth a check-out (IMHO) if it's not too far off course.

Daily use fee is now $15 and make sure you drive a few miles in (West) toward Walt's Cove. It's a lot smoother (playa surface) there and there is less traffic. There's also a cool obstacle course that you can buggy on on a West (primary spring direction) or East wind.

Geo got it spot on with the wind. First time I went there with my buddy it was blowing about 8mph (it was about 3pm at the time). He said, don't worry it'll pick up around 4pm. Well about 3:55, the wind jumped to the low 20's and didn't slow down until dark (about 8pm). And what also surprised me is that it is a very smooth wind....not as smooth as a coastal wind but definitely for an inland wind.

You may want to catch up to the gang that do the Pre-event. I'm pretty sure they plan to hit Elmir's ?

Isn't El Mirage an overshoot though? Maybe I'm looking at the wrong spot. Looks like we're set to roll into NABX just as the first flag goes up so we're on a bit of a mad dash to get down there from here.
