Gloves...

I'm gettin a little sick of going through gloves like toilet paper.

Is it just me or do alot of you riders go through gloves pretty quick (and by quick i mean 3 weeks and the gloves are tearing)

I've only used them for kiting..... not digging trenches, sharpening saw blades, or a chew toy. The fingers are already ripping their outer layer and exposing the fluff underneath

What do you use?

I bought a pair of Dakine Titan's last year from dogfunk.com. I really liked them. Held up really well. However, on my first trip to Tug Hill, I lost an insert (which was, honestly starting to come apart at the seams). I called Dogfunk, and they offered to replace the glove. I paid for a new pair, and I just have to send in the old ones for a full refund on those. New gloves cost 65 dollars. Old ones cost me 50 bucks. I'll lose 15 dollars in the deal (+shipping), but I can't complain. New gloves are comfortable as heck, and kept my hands toasty warm on the beach last sunday...

Dogfunk has this crazy idea about offering rather lengthy warranties on their stuff...

$5 walmart gloves have held up so far for a day. They seem good.

i got a sack full of spent gloves.

sailing gloves seem to take it best but cold is def different.

heavy bar pressure is a element.

3mm sealed F-bomb have made the longest(ripcurl). very hot will make your hands sweat like crazy, but wear is apparent.

I've been wearing Black Diamond Patrol gloves and they've been great. Tough and super warm and able top handle lots of hand skimming on the ice and crust.

Pretty waterproof too.

I've managed to start tearin through the leather at the stitches but I restitched them and they've been great. I usually get 2 seasons out of a pair and our seasons run from November to Mid-April.

I have been wearing Kombi gloves for kite skiing and Kombi mittens for downhill skiiing for years and they have held up great. Warm, water resistant and comfy.

Check out Kinco 901 's. They are $20 and they are fantastic. Made by a glove company, not a ski company. Next time you go to a Mountain, check out the ski patrol, lift operators, snow makers, a lot of them use these gloves. A backcountry Tele Skier friend turned me on to them and I love 'em. Plus they are cheap enough that you can get a few pair, which means dry warm gloves after lunch!

I haven't looked much into slow kites gloves, thought I'm dying to jump on snow. But for non-freezing my arse off land kiting and water kiting I use the Dakine 1/2 finger gloves. They've held up for 2yrs and look almost new.

How much bar pressure do you have?

those Kinco gloves look pretty good. Me, I pick up tan, smooth cowhide work gloves at Menards (gotta have those in Fargo, eh?). Lined with Thinsulate and microfleece or some sort of pile. $7.00 a pair on sale, and as warm as my Drop ski gloves. And a whole lot tougher. Bummer is no cuff or gauntlet.

When it's really cold out (below zero Fahrenheit) I put my lycra glove liners inside choppers. Hey, maybe the Menard gloves a size biggre would work with my Drop liners - the liners have a knit cuff, so that would keep the wrist from being exposed...

If its warmer out (and it seldom is) I wear Polaris snowmobile gloves that have a proprietary shell that is waterproof breathable material. Not cheap but tough, plus i work for them so i get a discount. :cool: If it's cold out, i wear a cheap pair of mitts with a fleece lining and leather palms, not sure where i bought them, but nothing beat mitts for warmth. If you're wearing them out that fast, ya must be draggin' your hands on that hard frozen prairie snow waaay too much.

I like the Kombi's too, but have a set of sheep skin mitts for the extra cold days. Wife even put them on a string for me so I wouldn't loose them...lol

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I have a pair of thinsulate gloves now, which are nice and warm but the problem is the seams on the palm (where it meets the fingers) just started to lose it.

I don't do a whole lot of dragging actually, what i think it migggght be is grabbing the board? I've only used my board for kiting so the toe side is still surprisingly sharp. My usual grab is tail, toe side.

I'm gunna look into all of these options, they look awesome. I'm surprised they are decently cheap too, some very cheap.

I've got to second the Dakine's.....I've had mine for three seasons now and they are holding strong and just as warm as day one. Wife bought me some high end waterproof AuClairs last winter but I can't wear 'em 'cuz they don't breathe and when you pull your hands out the liner inverts and is a pain to stuff back in.

I <3 my burton snowboarding gloves. I've used them up on the mountain (bogus basin ski resort) and snowkiting a good amount and they haven't aged a day! The other cool thing is the interior is fleece and you can take out the interior to dry 'em out. I've gone through gloves like crazy as well. I hate it when the thumb or other fingers get a hole and half way thru the day ur hands are wet and freezing.

Ice Armour fishing Mittens are H20 proof and really comfy. They also give you a good feel of the bar and go on and off quickly!

thanks guys for all the suggestions. I actually found a sweeeeet pair at our local scheels. They are grandoe with gortex, long cuffs on the end, fingered glove, waterproof of course, and best of all, fleece lined and deerskin leather on the palm and fingers for so far unbeatable results.

Did some toeside hand draggin while approaching mach at lake of the woods, still look brand new :)
