Buggy trailer

I'm finally looking for a trailer for my buggy and kites. I've have a big roof box, and have eihther benn partially breaking down the buggy or towing it (very short distances), but that time has ended. And that won't ork for NABX

I figure I could get a trailer that the buggy rolls into, or that I'd have to wedge in, or one that it rides on top of. I'm thinking being able to get all of my kites, buggy, and other equipment inside and locked would be a plus. The one major drawback I think I have is that my biggest car is a subaru forrester, so my towing capacity is 2400# _max_, 1800 seems more reasonable

For those of you you have trailers, what size do you have and how do you transport your buggy with it? I'm planning on being to hold libre hardcore bigfoot, which should be honking enough to cover must buggies.

Here is the Kitemobile with the early version of the buggy rack holding my old Wide Axle Flexi.

Current Version 3.2.1 will accommodate any size buggy and I will get pics tomorrow. Will also get pics of interior layout.

Trailer is Wells Cargo MPT 461

Curb weight is 410 lbs. I recon mine is 650-700 gross weight.

:o Nice rig Angus. I like the hitch and go method. More convenient than loading the truck every time. Although from the picture it looks like that flexi has a cup holding apparatus. That wouldn't be for your beer is it I hope the local beach police don't pull you over for B.U.I.

Yes it is a beer holder, also used for water. Beer is OK on the beach so long as it is not in glass. Jekyll Island is the only place I know where you buzz the Georgia State Patrol and whizz past their truck with a beer in your hand and not get arrested!!!

BTW, my trailer has no brakes.

At Nabx all buggies are left out at night. Many people camp in buggytown, adding a form of security.

Here is the current buggy rack v3.2.1 Note the long pylons that support the rear axle. They are out by the edges of the lid and span several of the aluminum frames underneath, distributing the load. The front attachment point is also near the edge of the lid and near a frame piece as well. The biggest bump we have around here are double railroad tracks but it takes those well.

The lid has gas struts to hold it open, but the weight of the rack even without the buggy will overpower those, hence the wooden strut to hold it open. The bigfoot is over 75 lbs. the biggest limitation would be the ability to open the lid with the buggy still on. It is awkward now.

Interior. you can see a little of the aluminum square tube frame inside the lid. On the left is the XR+ buggy with the back axle off. Two PL ARCS are underneath with inside the expanded bags with the sticks in them intact. Kites and gear in the compartments on the right.

A bicycle lock around the axle and the rack frame offers some security. the average bystander would not know that the axle comes off with no tools, easily getting around the lock. And the rack is painted wood and easily sawed through if someone was determined.

I really like the MPT 461, angus seriously sweet trailer! But the price tag is pretty high for the sqft. I've found a few other "luggage trailers" but they're all basically the similar price. What's odd is that you can go up to a full height 4x6 or 5x8 trailer for a bit less Too bad the buggy would fit into the 4x6 easily, and it's too tall to mount the buggy 6ft off the road on a ladder rack! A 5x8 would work great, but I think the load would be too much for my forrester.

A friend suggested that I hit up a local trailer maker / welder (we aparently have a lot of them out here) to see what they could fab. I've sent a few links to a well know local guy to show him what I'm looking for... can't wait to see what he comes back with :eureka:

I picked up a Yakima Rack and Roll trailer a few months ago. My wife has no roof rack on her car and we've got toys! Mainly got it to haul the Kite Cat. Was sold on the soft shocks to protect the hulls from any rigid bumps. I need them to last forever! Here's a pic:



Basically a roof rack on wheels. I'm hoping to build buggy mounts and put my Rocket Box along side it for kites and gear. We'll see how that goes. Something like what Angus has going on for his buggy. I like that it's very modular, takes any roof rack accessories, folds up nice to store away, and it's super light for good gas economy. So far it's been great for hauling skis, bikes, kayaks and cargo. Testing with the Kite Cat will happen when the snow is gone.

I wanted minimal weight for the job and still have an enclosure since I keep it outside. I already take a 20% hit on mileage and want to watch the wear and tear on brakes and tranny. I also wanted to see out the back. The buggy blocks some view but I am not totally blind in the rear view.

This thing is buried in my garage so It will be a chore to get it out. IF you want to come look at it let me know Sorry about the bad pics.

what you need are clearly mounted turrets. that should work

they actually make some pretty clevar low cost alarms that, unless the theif is professional will catch them off guard and send them running. for a pro, all you need to steal a trailer is one wrench and 60 seconds. that's what insurence is for.

I've been thinking about this subject and found the trailer below. I can double as a monster cooler. Fill it full of ice and beverages and drag it to your favorite picnic or beach outing. There is a drain plug in the bottom.

I found that one too... seemed pretty expensive for what it was and since it's all plastic, it can hold beer but doesn't lock well.

If anyone is interested I've amassed list of possible buggy trailers. PTW's is actually really quite nice, but bruderup only sells horse trailers in the us and those models are eu only
