ripsessionkites - 11-1-2010 at 03:40 AM

to help aid me in states to states

Name / Username:
State:

I would like to go from YVR southbound across the USA and back up to NY / QC and home across Canada.

Size most picked was the CH 12m that will be send with a Navi Bar setup. The first person recieving it will have to do some work first by setting it all up. I dont have the time or the space to get it done.

If you live in the same state or close enough to demo it, please due so than shipping it.

RULES
- if this is your first arc, pass on it ... go for the SYN PaSS.
- you may request longer time with it due to uncontrollable reasons, wind, work ... "your wife" not letting you fly doesnt count. one weekend should be good enough i think.
- you may not buy the kite at any cost, even if you pay me one million dollars for a used pass kite
- should there be damage, please let me know ... i will forward you to the nearest repair and/or send repair tape
- if you're around NABX, there will be a CH 10m to fly.

I hope you'll let me try both, I really want to see the difference between the two and the improvements of the charger over the synergy.

I KNOW that my roommate joeblinky would love to get in on this too. Also, our close friend Adam (flyjump) would love to try it out. He's in Springfield, MO so if it's easier to send to him first and then to us, we can work that out.

Thanks! I hope we get on this list, I've been waiting for a charger pass :)

It'd be economical to let me try them right after power, seeing as he lives very close to me. If we can make it out together, there will be no need for the pass to me. Things have been busy though.

If you come out to the Lake Simcoe event this weekend I'll have a few sizes of Chargers there to demo for the Ontario guys as well - so if it helps speed up the kite pass you have that as an option as well.

your weather is the same as ours, I talked with monty (in portland) yesterday and there was a peak of sun in the late AFT but also the wind dropped off.

next weekend is suppose to be sunny ... however thats 5 working days later.

keep it until you can fly it. im going to send out another one after NABX.

Dear Ricardo, Thanks a lot. No really.

arkay - 6-3-2010 at 07:30 PM

You made all my kites feel like crap. :(

Seriously, though. A tremendous thank you for the opportunity to test flight the charger. Today we got _very_ lucky... last good weather for a while thanks to a system from up north. The wind started off very light and in the wrong direction but it swung around and picked up. So I got to try the kite out from 6g9 to 17g22 :) In the buggy, on the landboard, trimmed in, trimmed out, strap tight, strap loose! Review to come.

But one quick word of advise. If you don't want to drop the dough to buy this kite, just take yourself off the list now. Save yourself the heartache from not being able to fly it more :Ange09:

I'm having a Molson just for you :bigok: (or maybe two)

ripsessionkites - 7-3-2010 at 03:07 AM

lol ... youll have different sizes to fly at NABX so you can be with one again.

also i noticed the pic on your FB Page. hehehe.

see you soon.

for the budget minded, the SYN is still a great kite. only comes in 12m though.

Hi all,

New to the list membership, but not to kiting or arcs. I kite mostly on the water, but have been trying to learn an earth board.

Would like to get on the list if possible. I will probably replace my Syn-15 with a Ch15 first (first in first out). Can't justify buying a whole new set of kites, but would like to see how the Ch12 compares to my Syn10/12. I know the 15 and 10 range usually overlap, but it is just so much better to hit the sweet spot on a 12.

Dave

f0rgiv3n - 19-3-2010 at 08:41 AM

Got the kite today!!! now... all i need to do is rustle up some wind and kick the soccer players off them fields... :)

f0rgiv3n - 29-3-2010 at 08:16 AM

Ok, looks like it's now heading to beamerbob! Bob, send me your addy in U2U and i'll get it shipped off this week.

Thanks for the opportunity rip!!!

BeamerBob - 29-3-2010 at 08:27 AM

addy sent. I don't guess it will make it by my Nabx departure early Thursday, but I'll get in the water with it the next week. Lets hear how you got along with it! I want to know what to expect. This could be reason for another trip to the sod farm. We can put it in the hands of several of us around here on the same day.

f0rgiv3n - 29-3-2010 at 12:54 PM

Warning: The following is one persons opinion in one location (Idaho). The conditions are gusty where I'm at and this is what i found for inland "soccer field" flying:

Ok sounds good man! Well, I did enjoy the kite. It is definitely fast, and has great depower, actually... amazing depower. It was a bit tough comparing this 12m charger to my 15m syn. From what I had read, I thought that the 12m charger was the new 15m syn. I thought it was going to be able to give me close to the same pull and stuff. I think I had the wrong impression :)

I was able to get it out two days. First day it was about 18mph, gusty up and down maybe 5mph. This day it was fun but it wasn't as smooth of power that the syn delivers. In the gusty winds I feel as though it's not as smooth as the syn or older arcs. It could have been that I'm used to a larger kite but I kinda like the smoother power than the jerky feeling. IMHO I think that it's a bit squirrely for my taste :). Maybe the 15m is less so, I'll never know! :). but all i do know is that the 12m charger is definitely not the new 15m arc (at my location, gusty winds).

PHREERIDER - 29-3-2010 at 01:39 PM

The CH 15 dials in perfect with wider window usage. It will have the timing and feel you're looking for no doubt. PASS the CH 15 would be choice. esp for the 170lbs+ crowd.

BeamerBob - 29-3-2010 at 01:46 PM

I'm going to concentrate on a good buggy eval then. At 225 I'm certainly 170 plus. I'll be hard pressed to get winds that flow enough to drag me out of the water with the 12m. I'll be looking for one to try out near the PL camp at NABX. I'll take it to the beach one day next week as well to seek out some sea breezes and get a feel for it in the buggy.

f0rgiv3n - 18-4-2010 at 09:52 PM

How's the Charger treatin' ya bob? what do you think of it? didja get a chance to go buggyin' with it!?

BeamerBob - 18-4-2010 at 10:27 PM

Yes, but with limited wind. I found it stable and very............Synergy like. I had to work it to make power with it. I think I can say that the kite is a little more rigid and doesn't lose its pressure if it is on the ground which it wasn't very much. Turning seemed about the same as with my Synergy 12m I had. It had some grunt when the wind would blow a little causing my buggy to side slide. I'm not done with it yet, but basically, nothing to dislike about it but nothing yet remarkable enough to make me want one instead of my synergy. I really don't get the expensive bar. If I ordered one, I would just get kite only and use my 07 bar. I do want to upgrade that chicken loop but other than that I'm happy with the 07 bar. I wish I could be more upbeat about the new product and maybe I'm not experienced enough with arcs to pick up on the nuances of this new kite, but it seems evolutionary instead of revolutionary. Still, I would like to fly it in some heavier winds to see what comes out of it when it is powered up. That would be a fairer conditions to come to a conclusion about the kite.

arkay - 19-4-2010 at 09:13 AM

I never got to fly it in heavy winds but it was very stable and produced smooth power in the mid teens. My problem is that I have no other arc to compare it to, other than macboy 15m phanny I flew last week (in non-comparable winds). I used the charger in the buggy and on a board; in the buggy I was able to have it not produce much lift, which was reassuring, but on the board it would boost well. I really enjoyed the smooth power and progressive depower of the kite. Interested to hear BB's buggy review as he's got a quiver of comparason :) One think I never really got to do was to fly the kite powered into the window and let go of the bar. There was never really enough wind for me to feel how the kite depowers & moves to zenith.

As for the bar, I agree with BB, I didn't notice anything too special about it. The depower line was a bit dangle so it was getting wrapped up on the center lines which is usual unless the depower is at the chicken loop, which I don't much like. I found the chicken loop to be a good size, but it took a while for me to be able to reconnect the loop after releasing it. I got OK at it, but it would be a pain in the water as I needed to really push the the pin way up to get it closed properly. The one nice thing on the bar, which is really expected these days, is the adjustable stopper.

tridude - 27-4-2010 at 02:16 PM

BeamerBob - 27-4-2010 at 11:23 PM

I'm jockeying for a kite day this Saturday that is promising some wind. If I get to challenge the kite a little, I'll pass it on down the road to laserman.

Thank you

Archy, you better bring it north so the mayor and I can have a whirl:bouncy::o

BeamerBob - 17-5-2010 at 10:03 PM

I have the charger right now. I've flown it twice. Once with not enough wind and another that was too much for land. I'd like one more session with it. I should have my new buggy in a couple weeks. If its cool, I'll keep it till then and then pass it on. If that's too long, I'll set it free now.

dgkid78 - 18-5-2010 at 04:42 PM

LOL I gotta go back to the beginning of this post I can't remember if i am even on the list. I thought I wanted to be on it when the Syn pass got cancelled. :dunno: see if Rip is adding anymore or if list is complete..................oh wait nevermind. I might just go pay doublespeed a visit when he gets his hands on it :singing:

erratic winds - 10-6-2010 at 09:45 PM

Is there any chance at all of trying this out before the snow hits? Seems that we've hit a wall.

Has Bob been using it for two months now or does someone else have it?

AD72 - 10-6-2010 at 10:33 PM

Bob passed it to Laserman in Alameda a few weekends ago.

BeamerBob - 16-7-2010 at 08:06 AM

I sent laserman a text to see what's up.

BeamerBob - 16-7-2010 at 11:19 AM

He responded and said he would get it shipped out soon to the next person. I asked him to post his impressions, so maybe we'll hear from him here.

ripsessionkites - 16-7-2010 at 02:50 PM

how long are people holding on to it for? weeks seem to turn into months.

if you anyone wants to be removed from the list thats cool with me but it looks like it will reach canada by winter. lol.

BeamerBob - 16-7-2010 at 03:45 PM

I had it a little over 3 weeks then passed it to laserman. Not sure why he kept it so long.

FloRider - 17-7-2010 at 11:26 AM

I'd like to be taken off the list for the Charger. It's not that I wouldn't appreciate a turn with it, I just got a new Kahoona V2 and I'll be occupied with it for the foreseeable future. I'll let someone else have a turn. Thanks for offering such a great opportunity for PKF'rs!

Laserman "sent" it to me 7/26, but when contacted via email yesterday, he admitted he hadn't actually sent it yet, and would try to actually get it out in the next few days. Wish it had been in the mail then, there was great chance I'd get the "pass" in time for a birthday session.

Sorry for the holdup, people. :dunno:

Maybe the pass participants should only be "one of us" in the future. Laserman, while seeming to be a nice guy, isn't one of us so has no reputation to protect. He really just used Rip's generosity and trusting nature for his own gain. He apparently isn't gong to give us any feedback either which would've been quite valuable given his kiteboarding abilities.

if you're not active on this forum you should be signing up either. that should be a rule for any pass the ...

please have a look at the list, and flag anyone that you feel would be taking "advantage" of the pass.

the pass isnt a free kite that you use until your season is over or hold onto until you feel that you had enough time on. try it for a weekend or two-three but it should be passed quickly. granted we cant control the wind, but a simple "hey, i got no wind - its still with me"

maybe next year ill see it again. LOL. have fun with it all. =)

THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK.

I'm Charged!

now to just get some wind up!

First impression-I can't wait to use this bar. I'm loving the design of the chickenloop. From everything I've read and everything I've watched, I'm expecting an autozenithing kite that is as high performing as my Fuel.

I'M SUPERCHARGED!

Just got in from an epic sesh with the charger. The gods smiled on me today twice, First, Home Depot delivers me a incorrect window-ruining my day and preventing me from completing a job and billing the client....and sending me home from work early. But the gods knew what they were doing, because out of nowhere, WIND. And plenty of it.

A triumphant day at Dove Valley.

CHARGER: Just exactly about what I expected. Amazing turning speed for a "foil". Had interior straps at "Max Depower", and wow. Turns faster than my slingshot Fuel 12, it was actually about as quick to turn as a 9m LEI...

Winds were very erratic, up and down and gusty, rode underpowered and working it, rode park and ride, and rode holding on for dear life. Comfortable with the kite at all wind speeds. Checked out the AutoZenith at varying wind speeds. Obviously, it works better in higher winds. Even when it was overpowered, it still did a good job of going to 12 and staying there without taking off.... I felt like I was flying my Fuel12 with magic levels of forgiveness. The CHARGER is a sick machine in all respects, and I'm pretty certain I'll be owning at least one ARC before 2010 is up. THANK YOU RIPSESSION for the opportunity!

Only downside? The Navigator Bar. Camcleats are not my favorite trimming method, I much prefer double-straps(pull to depower, pull to power up). It's a little hard to work with on the fly. That is my only fault. I did put my buddy on it for a bit and the cleat was nearly unreachable for him.(I'm 6'1" with long-ish arms and I found it difficult. He's...well he's about the spittin image of ripsession, yet smaller.)

The chickenloop and safety system are great, I love the leash attachment in-loop, I would love to see more other companies have a design like this. Felt much easier than the FlySurfer built-in leash, which I find limiting in its length.

The bag is very nice, and well-designed. Love the giant maxi-pad wing cinch straps & tube-bag(fill with sand or snow to have an anchor, dump when done, no need to carry around 5lbs of sand!)

I'm pretty certain I won't have a day as solid as today for a couple weeks, so I'm not holding onto the charger hoping for another great day. I'll give it a few more days, and try to get PKF'er 'flash' on it if possible, but it'll certainly be on its way to the next user soon.

I could not be more excited that things worked out to receive the kite last night and to have gotten time on it today. With luck like that, I'd better go buy some lotto tickets.

Thank you again Ripsession. It's just incredible of you to offer this opportunity to us. Thank you.
