Snowkiting Chequamagon Bay

I spent the New Years with family up in Bayfield, Wisconsin, north of Ashland and Chequamagon Bay on Lake Superior. Ice down in the bay was 10-14" thick with 3-4" bonded & wind packed powder.

Great spot - easy to drive on at Ashland and very few fish houses to fly around, which also means minimal tire ruts and ice chunks to snag lines. No other kiters any day I was out.

Aaron - you must have flown there before. Can't figure we don't hear more about it in the Twin Cities/Duluth area. Maybe it's the drive.

I've never snowkited there actually.. Probably because I don't head out that way much in the winter although I do enjoy Ashland. I usually detour to meet up with the Duluth crowd to kite.

The winter season you don't see as many kiters grouping together. With frozen lakes everywhere most pick a close by lake and head there.. Which is kind of nice. Mille Lacs can get pretty crowded on a nice summer day. Glad you got out! I hope to try that spot someday.
