500 windmills and not ONE turning

Bladerunner - 20-12-2009 at 05:41 PM

Well I drove by at least 500 dead still windmills scouting out spots today. Found a couple ?

Only I have the power to stop wind in a spot the must have spent a Billion dollars to erect so many windmills in such a reliable spot .

WTF :ticking:

It's that new Charger :ninja:

If you're lamenting the fact that their 'green' source of power is a waste of money then all I can say is WAVE POWER toldja waves never stop moving.
If you're lamenting the fact that you can't fly your new Charger then I can sympathize

Sounds like your trip hasn't been going too well blade. Have you gotten any flying in yet?

lunchbox - 20-12-2009 at 08:10 PM

Are you in Palm Springs? Sunday...there was no wind anywhere that I could tell in Socal...quietest I've ever seen it I think. High pressure brought some good winds to Moorpark on Sat but absolutely nothing today...Did you try Banning....seems like it's always blowing there...and if the place wasn't near P.S., well then, just ignore my rambling...;-)

Hey bladerunner

Off topic but I noticed you have a 7.7 twister and I'm thinking of getting one because I love the 5.6. What kind of wind range are you getting out of it?

Bladerunner - 21-12-2009 at 08:51 AM

Lunchbox,

I only went back out to highway 10 But that is the miles and miles of Windmills . I didn't go round to banning but even it would have been dead. Slight breeze on Sat. but topped out at about 8mph? I talked to the off road rental people. They own the land between the highway and wind farm . I have their permission to fly there ! The other part is water works so I may poach their land ?

With the rain lately I wonder about Elmer's ? I'm still looking to head that way on the 26th or 27th ?

Lives2fly,

I have only had my 7.7 out for one good fly so far. I demo'd one on a bar and HATED it !!! On the handles is a different story !

I am counting on it being my low wind kite but haven't proven it yet. I chose it over a larger Reactor for the lift . My 9m Blade is sloppy and slow . Good low wind engine but old.

It's 8 a.m. and cloudy again. I think those windmills work on thermals from the coast ?
I NEED sun and wind!

NO ..... I haven't had my Charger ( or anything ) in the air in 2 weeks ! :ticking:

Hey BR, can you make it there tomorrow - High wind advisory in effect Tuesday afternoon through the evening. Storm is hitting Oxnard...winds should be high 20's, maybe even 30's. In this type of scenario, in my experience, it will almost be a given that El Mirage will hit high 20's - low 30's...hopefully not more but there is always that possibility. Here's the report for Tuesday -

"* WINDS: AREAS OF WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS 25 TO 35 MPH WITH STRONGEST GUSTS TO AROUND 60 MPH NEAR THE RIDGETOPS... AND ALONG DESERT MOUNTAIN SLOPES AND ADJACENT DESERT AREAS."

Call (760) 388-4411 for Lake Bed status. Current status as of 8:15am on 12/21 - ****CLOSED****. Call between 8:30am - 4:30pm for a 'live' person.

Good luck...

Bladerunner - 21-12-2009 at 09:49 AM

Thanks for that !

Wind is predicted here Tues. as well. I think I will check out my local options and put the brand new kite through it's virgin set-up on a nice bed of turf . Then see if we can get high !

Once we get familiar with each other we will try all that fast and dirty stuff at Elmers ! :bigok:

Can I expect Playa Patina on my kites at Elmers ? I can meet up on the weekend, if it remains open !

Vancouver weather: rain, rain, rain.....
You're not missing much here BR!

lives2fly - 21-12-2009 at 10:14 AM

Cool. I hated my 5.6 on the 50cm PL bar it came with but I now fly it on a 70cm flexifoil bar and its perfect.

I had the same thought - Low wind engine with a bit of lift.

Good luck finding the wind!

AD72 - 21-12-2009 at 10:22 AM

I am down in Socal for the holidays. I brought along a 9M Phantom that I just picked up from over in the UK. Unfortunately it does not look like any wind for the week down here. Must be because I brought the new (to me) kite along optimistically.

AD72

Wind tomorrow ?

Where are you at ? Want to meet at Elmers next weekend if it is open ?

lunchbox - 22-12-2009 at 08:55 AM

It's starting.....

7:50am - Winds are already out of the West at 25-32mph at El Mirage!!! This should only get stronger as the day progresses...anyone ever tried kiteboarding with a hankerchief before ;-) Too bad the lakebed's closed and I have to work :sniff:

Bladerunner - 22-12-2009 at 03:40 PM

Can't even see the 500 windmills at times from the sand storms around them today :shocked2:

Turns out it was gusting to 57 . ( 65mph after I got home )
Tommorow morning looks better with about 10 - 12 ?
