WAHOO!! Cooking Lake is officially open for business. Went out today for a couple hours despite a sore back and am happy to report about 95% snow coverage, fun drifts and an stellar example of clean winds today. Guys, you gotta believe me when I say that there was NO SNOW here Thursday morning. Check out our pit......

very nice!!! looking forward to getting out there very soon. We have approximately 4 inches in the fields here. Not enough yet to cover stubble:no: Hopefully there's even more when I get there:wee:

Wicked! Can't wait to get out there!

Sounds great, I wish I was up there. We had lots of snow over the past 2 days but it all blew off the flats onto roads. Sounds like we are in the deep freeze all week so lakes around Calgary should be frozen soon.

Come on up anytime! We've got a place to crash for you here that's 21 minutes from the Sailing Club parking lot.

I'd love to come down and play one weekend this winter Canuck (actually the Mueller boys should be taking me out for a demo day to make up for some never made up lessons). What spot should I be watching the forecasts for? Spray? Chestermere?

You know those Mueller boys, I use to ride for them years ago. Hang gliders...lol

macboy come on down... both spots have wind forecasts on LocalKiteSpots.com

For Chestermere I find the Weather Underground forecast for Calgary OK - it combines the Environment Canada 5 day forecast with local weather stations. More than 5 day is not reliable - weather just changes too fast here. For current conditions there is an AMA road camera near the north end of the lake http://www.ama.ab.ca/road_report/camera/1-10.htm.

I haven't figured out the weather for Spray yet. I usually look at Environment Canada forecasts for Banff and Canmore, the 6-day snow forecast for Norquay http://www.snow-forecast.com/resorts/Banff-Norquay/6day/mid, and the Weather Underground forecast for Nakiska Ridgetop http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/71245.html

Let me know when you are headed down.
