you have Hooj Ballz ....

BeamerBob - 2-11-2009 at 04:44 PM

You were very powered up to have trouble backing up like that. You were light on your feet AND getting some pressure pulling you downwind. You know what the winds were? That was a 15m wasn't it?

carltb - 2-11-2009 at 04:59 PM

i dont know the exact wind speed but it must have touched 40mph when it gusted. you cant quite see but i was airbourne for the length of the gust and must ahve travelled a good 50-60 metres.

Bladerunner - 2-11-2009 at 05:48 PM

HaHaHa,

I took that EXACT same ride on the Libre Radical last week :wee: I wondered what it would have looked like in video and now I see! Hillbilly :moon: pads baby ! They saved me again.

That was some CRAZY air just before 4 min.

Always inspiring watching your stuff. Your editing skills are getting pretty worthy as well !!!! :bigok:

flyboy15 - 2-11-2009 at 06:31 PM

carl awesome work man, Im very very impressed. It looks like you catch some awesome winds out there!

Got a question though, and anyone can chime in if they'd like, but i see you letting the bar out when you get to the top of the jump. Is that an arc thing or just your jump technique? I'm riding a 12m foil and would like to see if that quick pump has good advantages for me. I've got a couple guys in the club riding arcs that would love to find the secret tips that will insure great air like your getting.

Great video Carl! I enjoyed the evolution of Peter Lynn and wondered why I didn't think of that. It looks like you picked up a new camera, what kind is it and what editing software are you working with?

Very nice!

PHREERIDER - 2-11-2009 at 07:43 PM

right on carl cloud hopping

kite turns quicker when bar is let out, so redirect is quicker, then pull in to control float in direction of ride. really gives total control through the bar

also a bit of a recoil affect , after the canopy is weighted and accel up is slowing . in heavier air the canopy is super rigid and you feel it in the bar .

kinda of a reflex after you've flown them bit

the bar pump is like dipping the clutch. when you pull the bar in you change the angle of attack of the kite and like any wing it will only fly at a steeper angle for so long before stalling. so at the top of the jump (the stall point) i let the bar out to get the kite flying again and to speed it up, then back on the power again for a softer landing.

lad - 3-11-2009 at 06:51 AM

This goes very far in explaining an earlier PKF question: which point do you ease the bar, and repump it, for the softer landing. Makes perfect sense.

carltb - 3-11-2009 at 07:00 AM

there is no exact point, its all down to feel. you tend to know when you hit the top.

DirtDave1 - 3-11-2009 at 08:17 AM

That Hi-arc is a nice looking kite. I wonder when it was made and what its wind range was. Was it only made in 6m size?

"sorry to hijack"... Is that like "I'mma let you finish, but..."?

flyboy15 - 4-11-2009 at 09:23 PM

haha no drew, i was so mad! we didn't get any coverage at all.. AT ALL!!! they had this wicked winter storm warning forecasted a week out saying the world was gunna end. We got all geared up, waxed the boards and skis and everything. What happens? a 15 mph choppy as hell wind and a sprinkle of snow. :ticking: (idk why i picked that smiley but it fits how i feel.)

screw weathermen, I'm not looking at anything but current conditions from now on haha.

I can't even..... don't wanna..... think about....... im done.

Until next time mother nature, until next time :wink2:

Hey Carl, another great vid man.

Got any tips for a first time Arc user? Just got a new Synergy and plan to try it out Friday/Saturday. Static then board I assume?

Thanks,
Brian
