nice...back from Ole Miss and we are ready for Fri/Sat........................

acampbell - 9-5-2010 at 02:54 PM

I was on the beach today and it looks great! No odd formations or too many tidal pools. Nice and smooth.

Today was side shore wind at 18-24 mph. smoking sand and sheep in the pasture. Too strong for the seabreeze to override but the beach was wide of some fun running about.

NOAA Predicts SE winds either 10 kts or 10-15. This is perfect. dead on-shore breeze is ESE, so the sea-breeze should be lining it up. Can we say park and ride?

There will definately be some "odd formations" if I decide to walk around shirtless!

My daughter told me I have "moobs"! Strait from the mouth of babes...

I could hear the keyboard clicking/speaking....

I could go for a park and ride day. Had fun the last few days, but was more upwind tacks and plowing through soft sand than park and ride. But hey... anyday kiting is a good day :singing:

Taper123 - 9-5-2010 at 06:31 PM

:dunno:
This may be a stooopid question... if registration is scheduled for 12 each day... as long as the tides and amount of people on the beach cooperate, we're free to buggy from sun up til sun down? (after dark is for turtles and pedestrians only.. if the turtles want to buggy, we'll just break out "Terrapin Station" and crank it up real loud and let them have their fun)

acampbell - 10-5-2010 at 03:29 AM

Yeah buggy anytime. There are no permit or access issues. I say 12:00 noon for practical issues with high tide in the morning, but am out there setting up early - 10- 11 am. Take it when you can get it. Weekdays few people on the beach so even higher tides might work.

East winds all week. ride ride ride

That's open season with the apex! I'm so stoked I feel like I should be leaving milk and cookies out tonight: wee:

pokitetrash - 10-5-2010 at 07:53 AM

I think I may give up trying to live with just my fixed bridles and succumb to my Arcoholism..

Sounds like a Phanny Weekend?

mougl - 10-5-2010 at 07:57 AM

I have yet to try an arc...I was going to buy one but the summer winds in Naples would make inflation quite the process

pokitetrash - 10-5-2010 at 08:05 AM

There'll be plenty of Arc experts there (not me... I'm a newb to Arcs ..) who I'm sure will gladly let you hook onto one. I'll gladly let you use any that I fly-- just don't ask for tips as I'm being dragged flailing and flopping across the beach...:tumble:

I cheat and carry a small cheap gas powered leaf blower (Inflato-matic) with me to the field. I have flaky winds where I fly all the time. You can sometimes get one for around $69 at Lowes, Home Depot.

Why do I have the feeling that my wallet will be screaming in pain soon? Lol

tridude - 10-5-2010 at 08:33 AM

leaf blowers on beaches will be destroyed.....................Friday looks like a pm Silverarrow H20 session.............................

pokitetrash - 10-5-2010 at 09:15 AM

I only use the leaf blower at OOBE field and right next to my A.H. neighbor's house for no apparent reason...

Hardrock - 10-5-2010 at 06:11 PM

ok so 10 knots is about 11.5 mph. What size kite will work for the buggy?

5m Beamer. 5m Ace, 7m Ace, 19m Venom are the largest kites I have. Smaller are 350 Hydra and 3m Beamer.

Wasn't thinking to much about bringing the Ace's but I don't have many to choose from.

Suggestions?

acampbell - 10-5-2010 at 06:32 PM

Any but the Hydra and 3m Beamer for those winds. Venom 19 on the high end for land and 11-12 mph but doable if careful. There will be many kites to fly, no worries. HQ will be in town and I have stuff. You will cruise; no worries. NOAA continues to call for SE. Awesome.

Bring whatever you can. Big kites will rule but the direction is right for de-power park-and-rides.

Hardrock - 10-5-2010 at 06:44 PM

Cool and Thanks. Can't wait!!!

mougl - 11-5-2010 at 12:35 AM

I'm on my way!!!

tridude - 11-5-2010 at 05:05 AM

a wake up..........................................:D:D

chris - 11-5-2010 at 05:15 AM

Craig Young from HQ is on his way down. Good winds, ya'll.

pokitetrash - 11-5-2010 at 05:37 AM

Yo Angus, will the Turtle Crawl & Nest Fest or whatever be on the same stretch as where we are? Looks like it could bring alot of people onto the beach. I got an email talking about May 10 -15.

mougl - 11-5-2010 at 06:54 AM

I'm here already and so is the wind!

KnocS-P-A-M-L-I-N-K-em down like bowling pins...

Actually we have a problem only for Saturday. All the events are in the PM except for the triathalon Saturday afternoon that runs right through Kite Beach, so we may have to relocate Saturday to just south of the convention center. Last year they told me no conflicts but somebody apparently forgot something....
... we will work it out

pokitetrash - 11-5-2010 at 09:43 AM

we can wait em out as they run through??? I like the bowling pin idea...

They'll just have to watch out for us. Consider us like a hazard on a golf course or an obstacle that makes the run more like an iron man competition...

tridude - 11-5-2010 at 10:42 AM

speaking from past experience I wouldnt hit a triathlete...........................those are some fit mufkas.........................

acampbell - 11-5-2010 at 01:04 PM

Turns out Race is in the morning so no worries there. In the afternoon though there will be kids activities south of the convention center so we will have to look out. There will be a sea turtle release at 4:00pm on Saturday which might be cool to see. there will be snow fencing set up on the beach for it so watch out and stay north.

pbc - 11-5-2010 at 08:12 PM

Where might one find a high quality source of adult beverages in the Brunswick area? I'm thinking along the lines of yeast, barley, hops, etc. Undistilled and carry out to be precise.

Florida can be somewhat lacking in this arena and I always like to see what others have access to when I travel.

Hey Angus and co wishing you all good winds and great kiting for the weekend

Yes, important question!!

Jekyll Island is state park so only beer is at the liquor store in the shopping center when you come on the island. Expensive.

Exit 29 in I-95, before you go east/ north on 17/ 25 to Jekyll, go West/ South 1/2 mile to Harvey's Supermarket for any necessary provisions.

For true liquor store mainland, go west from Exit 29 1/4 mile, turn left at the Goasis gas stop, immediate right, then immediate left after Super 8 motel and M&B Liquor is just ahead 1/4 mile on right

acampbell - 12-5-2010 at 04:10 AM

Thanks; good winds forecast, and we will hit no kangaroos, thanks to you!!!!

Instructions printed and in the pile headed to the car. Thanks!

It would seem I owe you a beer. :-)

Pokite on the way.......make sure you have your soap aon a rope near bye........................:lol::duh::duh:

pokitetrash - 12-5-2010 at 07:59 AM

I can't afford the soap anymore. I just bought the 8m Venom II from LucR and now I'm out of soap-on-a-rope money... I'll have to take a tidal pool bath.

tridude - 12-5-2010 at 10:24 AM

do you have the winds in Aiken for an eight..........nice kite Im sure

pokitetrash - 12-5-2010 at 10:28 AM

A few times a year we get 25-30+. You've been to OOBE Field and can attest to the flaky wind so I think I might get to use it a few times anyway. Also, I wanted a small depower to teach my kids depower on low wind days. My daughter wants to learn to ATB, she only weighs about 110lbs so it might work good for her.

acampbell - 12-5-2010 at 04:20 PM

Jibe started off with a low level fly-by of a C-130 right off the beach. Wish I could say I arranged it.

Great winds today mostly on shore, some a bit south. When riders tell me about the shipwreck (way south end of island 3 miles away) then I know they had a good ride. Great turn up today and a lot more arrive tomorrow. Winds supposed to be 10 - 15 kts southeast. That's nearly on-shore.

Eric Miles doing lots of 360 spins in the bug and lots of 2-wheel action - great free-style

Craig Young of HQ cruising with NEO 11 and Montana 5 12.5m. Showed us the new Scout II kite with clean bar and ingenious cross-over bridle.

Mougl putting a lot of miles on the Apex 10 and lending me a great hand with looking after JIBE. thanks!.

Lot more to tell.

Beach gets bigger every day with a spring tide. Those arriving tomorrow in for a real treat!!!

mougl - 12-5-2010 at 04:33 PM

Miles and miles...epic! Jekyll is amazing...can't wait till tomorrow...Angus doing an awesome job of putting it all together

pokitetrash - 12-5-2010 at 07:24 PM

Going to sleep now. Going to sleep now. Going to sleeeeeppppp noooww.... :o

mgatc - 13-5-2010 at 07:38 PM

Thursday, May 13

Epic day on J.I. Onshore winds started out light and continued to build throughout the day. Kept everyone on the beach flying until the late afternoon tide finally ran us off.

Everyone on every type and size kite making the 3 mile run to the south end and back. Beach was WIDE OPEN! Park and ride was the order of the afternoon. There were a LOT of kites in the air including a number of large Peter Lynns.

Didn't have quite enough wind for those desiring a water ride but no one was complaining. (It's a buggy Expo after all) Angus did a heckuva job aligning the wind, tide, and crowds. Today was the day!

mougl - 14-5-2010 at 04:23 PM

Yet another epic day on JI!!!! Park and ride allll day...Tridude even got out on the water...flew quite a few kites, rode an ivanpah bug (omg I want one!!!) Flew an arc for the first time Venom 19...rode an ivanpah bug (this thing is like its on rails!!!) Did 23 miles on one haul...did I mention the ivanpah bug???

mgatc - 14-5-2010 at 06:35 PM

Glad to hear the day finished strong after a rather dubious start. Hated to leave even after staying past my "must depart by time" because..................................

it was hard to walk away from a landboard session with Chad's 15m Charger. Thanks Chad!!! Mougl (the "g" is silent, don't ask) wasn't the only one with some "firsts" today. I down looped the Charger with ease. The turning speed is everything it is claimed to be. The low end capability is there also. Might be some Arcs for sale soon.

Great time seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Angus did a superb job once again putting all this together. The island was abuzz with activity today but kite beach was kept clear for our enjoyment. He obviously has friends in high places. Many thanks, Angus!!!!

Thanks also to all who were there and were willing to share their knowledge and gear. Came home with a lot of good advice and quite a few board and buggy hours under my harness. Outstanding event!

woohooooooo...............great people and venue.......................nice to meet some of the newer PKF members.....................awesome session in the buugy with onshores..............everyone made the 3 mile trek to the south end and back to include Phree doing it on his landboard.........................discovered the 19m Silverarrow is a sweet low wind buggy motor as well.....................5pm the winds kicked in to around 12ish and finished up with a nice water session.............................again nice meeting the new faces and look forward to getting together soon.............................Saturday promises to be much the same so fly it like you stole it.......................:lol::duh::duh:

tridude - 16-5-2010 at 09:46 AM

windmapper had JI looking great again on Saturday..........................I have to admit, buggying is a blast........................Ive been in this activity for almost 5 years so I guess it was bound to happen (Tri not the sharpest knife in the drawer)........................Im def bucking for a darwin award nomination for taking my first real buggy runs on a SA 19......................thank goodness I know the kite cause I built some serious speed on 5mph wind/apparent wind........................thanks to all for the tutorials and support....................lastly its been awhile since Ive seen so many foils flying at one time................nice change of pace.....................

the blokarts are sweet as well.....those guys were jammin all day............................:lol::duh::duh::thumbup::thumbup:

Hardrock - 16-5-2010 at 05:12 PM

Was that fun or what!!!!!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

mgatc - 16-5-2010 at 07:24 PM

I'll get some pictures posted soon. My Picasa is acting up at the moment.

Def a good time!

pokitetrash - 17-5-2010 at 09:23 AM

I've never had better runs in my whole life and I've had serious runs! Kiting runs that is!
Than You Angus for putting that all together and to all those who helped him. I had the best time learning that 15m Phantom during a bunch of miles of park and rides in the Flexi-Lynn Biggie Lounger. I know my Brother In Law Frankiter had a blast too with his first park and rides.

Thanks Chad for helping me with the landing lesson!

Even with a head cold, I had the best time of my life - kiting. (Sniiiiiiifffffff!)

363 more days till JIBE '11!

mougl - 17-5-2010 at 10:29 AM

Only 363 to go??? I better get to saving!
