hey guys-
I've got the kite right now. Flyboy and I were only able to fly it for a few mins on labor day. The winds were terrible that day. From the wrong direction for our field and very gusty.

As far as the kite goes, this thing is a machine. It had way more power than I expected from a 12. The thing is very lifty and turns on a dime. I too, had issues with the auto zenith due to low winds and gusty conditions. Also, it would tend to overfly me, I figure that due to conditions and my lack of tuning.

Im not really big on the navigator bar, I much prefer the setup on the previous bars setup, but I see a huge improvement in the safety compared to the previous setups.

I plan on hanging on to it for a couple more days, I'll have it sent out this weekend to the next guy on the list. Im hoping a couple more from the club get a chance to ride it before its gone.

doublespeed360 - 2-10-2010 at 06:55 AM

maybe i will see it at christmas time .

canuck - 18-10-2010 at 09:12 PM

hey macboy/revpaul

If you have it when the Cooking Lake Kite Fest is on I'll come up again this year. Hope to see it sooner than later though.

bluefunelement - 19-10-2010 at 07:15 AM

any chance it will be at WWBB?

doublespeed360 - 20-10-2010 at 04:39 PM

my guess is nope

ripsessionkites - 19-11-2010 at 06:09 AM

where is this kite right now and with whom?

bobalooie57 - 19-11-2010 at 06:28 AM

Last known whereabouts was UND? (University of North Dakota) ^5 posts

InvertedForce - 19-11-2010 at 09:03 AM

I had it until about 1 week ago (Iowa) and sent it off to Stan, it should've arrived there sometime this week.

InvertedForce - 19-11-2010 at 09:05 AM

Should be in Cocoa Beach, Florida right now...

InvertedForce - 20-11-2010 at 01:25 AM

I know, I got a few pictures of him with the charger when I was in Springfield last to visit him, but he wasn't wearing his helmet (oops!) as he was just trying it out quickly...

syuzhak - 20-11-2010 at 09:13 AM

Yea I got the Charger, flew it yesterday on water in 12-15kts. Very underpowered, but the 12 turns fast, so I worked it like a maniac. Definitely a different kite to my Inflatos and Flysurfers.

Will try it again in stronger winds and then send it off to the next lucky person.

syuzhak - 9-1-2011 at 06:05 PM

Im ready to pass the kite on....Who's next?

Here's hoping the next person doesn't keep it for two months....

ripsessionkites - 9-1-2011 at 10:09 PM

erratic winds - 9-1-2011 at 10:12 PM

hehehe, thx again for staying on top of it me. many many thx

syuzhak - 11-1-2011 at 02:10 PM

So, doublespeed360 is next then? The kite was sent out a month ago to danginofli but he opted out... I contacted 2 people before him on the list and they never replied. I dont care how far I have to send it, I just want to get the kite to the next legitimate person.

Contact him, no reply in the 2 days contact the next by U2U. Pass on the fun.

AD72 - 11-1-2011 at 06:40 PM

Please add me to the bottom of the list. I did not get a chance to fly it when it was in Norcal and just on board-starts at the time so it was not appropriate to try on the water. What is the final destination of the kite and what shape is it currently in?

kitedelight - 12-1-2011 at 10:24 PM

never heard of this before, I was wondering what the heck 'pass the ....' was.
It's a fantastic idea.

I live in Calgary, AB too and would love to demo this kite.

doublespeed360 - 13-1-2011 at 12:18 PM

sent u2u and email address to syuzhak

i would contact the boys in AB when it arrives and just meet up with them. Macboy, Canuck, and/or PWind are the coolest dudes in the world.

erratic winds - 13-1-2011 at 07:00 PM

Posting in attempt to get to the 5th page. :dunno:

erratic winds - 13-1-2011 at 07:01 PM

well, didn't work. Mods feel free to delete this post and the last one, and I guess I'll see page 5 some other day. (Man, I HATE this bug)

canuck - 16-1-2011 at 08:53 AM

We'll look after you kitedelight. Might have to arrange a Sylvan or Cooking Lake group session if there is still wind :tumble: when it arrives in Alberta

Bladerunner - 16-1-2011 at 12:23 PM

Hey Canuck,

If you gat a chance to give Kitedelight a go on the Charger when it's there it would be HUGE. I know he is thinking of getting one and wonders if it's too big.

kitedelight - 17-1-2011 at 08:22 PM

I feel well taken care of. :tumble:

yes, I have been wanting to try a 12 or 10 arc for sure. Well see if we have snow by the time it arrives, might have to make it a landboarding test session. I'm okay with that. The spring winds can be strong, so it could be a great time to try it out.

macboy - 17-1-2011 at 08:59 PM

We have OODLES of snow. I have an eight foot pile right outside my backdoor that's tempting me to strap on the snowboard

Truly, I'm shoveling about 5-10 cm a DAY here for the past two weeks.......we just need wind. Anyone got any? Seriously - it's been a BAD season for wind. Go figure.

macboy - 8-2-2011 at 10:39 AM

Rip - assuming it makes it here in time for the festival and we get a chance to launch it should we send it south to Calgary with Canuck/Kitedelight enroute to PrairieWind? Then we just gotta swing it over to Denis and the trip is complete. Maybe we Albertans can all toss a toonie in the bag to split the shipping down to PW or over to Denis. (Smart huh? And people think it's the oil that makes Alberta rich ; )

PW - you have plans to be in or near Calgary anytime in the next few weeks?

i heard a rumor that he is busy playing with some Vapors.

macboy - 15-2-2011 at 07:30 PM

The Charger has landed back in Canada - thanks Doublespeed (and Rip). I'll make sure it's out at Cooking lake this weekend. Let me know when y'all are thinking of coming in case I make family day plans for family day.

macboy - 21-2-2011 at 06:41 PM

The Charger didn't take flight this weekend so it's still here. The plan is to hope for wind in the next week or so and then get it down to Canuck in time for him to get under it and then get it to PW to take down to NABX. I'll keep the thread posted.

I did open the bag but no sooner had I inserted the spars, I got called away to help a young kiter and by the time I got back to the Charger I had witnessed the Venom 10 launch struggle so I rolled it up for another day and pulled the Frenzy out instead. As I said to Canuck, "Sometimes you just need to fly the snowkites."

macboy - 11-3-2011 at 05:56 PM

No wind for me but that's OK. I have a feeling I'll be on the coast this summer so I'll have another chance to play with it I'm sure. It's on it's way to Canuck as we speak.

canuck - 12-3-2011 at 09:09 AM

Thanks macboy, the Charger is in Calgary.

Looks like there might be enough wind this weekend and we still have lots of snow. I'll make sure kitedelight gets to compare it to his 13m VenomI

kitedelight - 14-3-2011 at 03:04 PM

ya, hope so. Couldn't be a better time for me as I got a really good session with the V13 yesterday so I am getting more familiar with it and what it can do. The winds are up lately, so could be good time to test it out the 12. Hope the snow sticks around on the lake with the warmer weather and strong winds. Snow is disappearing rapidly on the fields....gosh, might even get the charger 12 out with the landboard if this keeps up!

kitedelight - 21-3-2011 at 03:52 PM

So, got the charger out once....in quite bad conditions. Winds were very up and was changing average speeds (moderate to large change) probably every 2-4 minutes, and at times every 1-2 minutes, with gusts of all types in between. Winds were probably ranging from 15-45kph in total (not at the same time of course), and maybe a bit stronger once or twice during some really strong walls of wind. The wind direction was probably the only thing that was stable that day. When I finally got out, it was only me and a guy on a 5m depower foil, and he was going at a reasonable pace too.

I have only flown my venom and a venom2, and clearly Peter Lynn has been busy since putting out the Venom. The hardwear and bar/lines system is a big improvement, especially the chicken loop. I really like that the front lines are drawn together near the kite, really helped in the gusty conditions keep the proper shape of the kite during sudden holes in the wind. I liked it so much I am wondering how I could do this to my current venom 13 set up. I could do without the clam cleat system though, not a fan of it.

I was told to make sure to have it nearly inflated before launching. I did, and launch went fine. Besides the lighter (and improved) bar pressure, 2 things jumped out at me. The steering felt a *bit* indirect (ie, very slight delay in kite reaction probably due to the pulleys), but turning was FAST. That combo is not a part of my automatic pilot skills, so...really had to watch what the kite was doing in the sky, especially in those winds. It did get better through the ride but never fully dialed in the kite - could have been the conditions though. The next thing that jumped out at me....it's an arc, but it has some teeth that the venom doesn't have. When the wind goes through it, it seems to builds power quicker. It almost felt paradoxical at times. I would have really liked to opportunity to get this out in smoother winds to see what it had for jumping. I only had the nerve to try some very small jumps in those conditions....and on one of them, the wind totally dropped me. So, glad I didn't do anything substantial. Even though the jumps were very small, I did like the float feeling it gave.

I didn't ride more than about an hour and a bit cause the conditions were going from bad to worse, and me and the other guy riding the 5m foil packed up at the same time. We talked earlier and I told him even though it as a 12, it powered like a smaller foil - I told him something equivalent to a 7-8 but I don't actually know for sure. But, still, he came over, gave a good look at the kite, and said he was very surprised I wasn't more powered up. This was on purpose of course, didn't want to push it in those conditions on a new kite. But, the fact that the charger could be ridden quite conservatively in those conditions was impressive.

So, honestly, not a fun day to get out and ride, but it did show me the capacity of the charger to still be able to handle junk winds even though its an aggressive kite. I can only imagine how much fun it would be in even smoother conditions. Thumbs up Peter Lynn, nice kite.

Thanks Ripsessionkites! What a great opportunity for kiters to be able to try the charger out.

ripsessionkites - 21-3-2011 at 05:35 PM

do you want to give it another shoot before you pass???

the kite will be sitting in AB for awhile.

kitedelight - 22-3-2011 at 03:36 PM

ya, we'll see what comes. Canuck still has the kite so it's possible to try it out again.
Snow conditions locally don't look great though, and the winds have slowed, even at the kiting spot in the mountains.

PrairieWind - 22-3-2011 at 06:07 PM

Just remember that snow is overrated. Just channel Feyd's ice skills via the charger and embrace the conditions that Southern Alberta has the most of...

canuck - 22-3-2011 at 08:51 PM

PrairieWind, we have an advantage for late season conditions with velvet ice - skis. kitedelight is a boarder. However the dump of snow in your area this week could seriously extend the season. If Lake Newell is any good we might be able to all give the Charger a go and pass it to you.

macboy - 22-3-2011 at 08:59 PM

Guys - make sure you keep me in the loop on any meet up. I've got to book a meeting in Cochrane in the next 2 weeks so I'll have a hallpass for the weekend down south.

chudalicious - 23-3-2011 at 08:22 PM

Hey everyone - id love to try this kite out as i am weighing which closed cell to go to next. The new FS Unity or a PL Charger?

Can I get on the list?

ripsessionkites - 23-3-2011 at 08:39 PM

its already in canada, but i can see when I get back from NABX

if it doesnt have to be a CH 12, i have a demo CH 15 as well.

the Unity from what I heard is like the bridge between the Pulse II and Speed 3, i think it would cross into your current quiver of the Frenzy. But on the rumor side it will replace the Pulse II, so we will have to wait and see.

the Unity comes out in early April I believe

chudalicious - 23-3-2011 at 08:48 PM

No worries Rip - ill be at WW where there is sure to be ample opportunity to try one out!

:)

Also, if i end up picking up a unity, it would be an 8m so ill most likely sell the frenzy 7m ( the 9 is technically my fiance's since i bought it for him and all).

I just wish theyd post some friggin details!

flyjump - 23-3-2011 at 09:27 PM

You can't beat a 12m charger in high gusty winds. Although you might want to learn flying arcs are a more forgiving model since the charger is much more aggressive than earlier models
